Certain decompositions of matrices over Abelian rings

Nahid Ashrafi, Marjan Sheibani, Huanyin Chen (2017)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

A ring R is (weakly) nil clean provided that every element in R is the sum of a (weak) idempotent and a nilpotent. We characterize nil and weakly nil matrix rings over abelian rings. Let R be abelian, and let n . We prove that M n ( R ) is nil clean if and only if R / J ( R ) is Boolean and M n ( J ( R ) ) is nil. Furthermore, we prove that R is weakly nil clean if and only if R is periodic; R / J ( R ) is 3 , B or 3 B where B is a Boolean ring, and that M n ( R ) is weakly nil clean if and only if M n ( R ) is nil clean for all n 2 .

About G-rings

Najib Mahdou (2017)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Similarity:

In this paper, we are concerned with G-rings. We generalize the Kaplansky’s theorem to rings with zero-divisors. Also, we assert that if R T is a ring extension such that m T R for some regular element m of T , then T is a G-ring if and only if so is R . Also, we examine the transfer of the G-ring property to trivial ring extensions. Finally, we conclude the paper with illustrative examples discussing the utility and limits of our results.

A subclass of strongly clean rings

Communications in Mathematics

Similarity:

In this paper, we introduce a subclass of strongly clean rings. Let R be a ring with identity, J be the Jacobson radical of R , and let J # denote the set of all elements of R which are nilpotent in R / J . An element a R is called provided that there exists an idempotent e R such that a e = e a and a - e or a + e is an element of J # . A ring R is said to be in case every element in R is very J # -clean. We prove that every very J # -clean ring is strongly π -rad clean and has stable range one. It is shown that for a...

Semicommutativity of the rings relative to prime radical

Handan Kose, Burcu Ungor (2015)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Similarity:

In this paper, we introduce a new kind of rings that behave like semicommutative rings, but satisfy yet more known results. This kind of rings is called P -semicommutative. We prove that a ring R is P -semicommutative if and only if R [ x ] is P -semicommutative if and only if R [ x , x - 1 ] is P -semicommutative. Also, if R [ [ x ] ] is P -semicommutative, then R is P -semicommutative. The converse holds provided that P ( R ) is nilpotent and R is power serieswise Armendariz. For each positive integer n , R is P -semicommutative...

Skew inverse power series rings over a ring with projective socle

Kamal Paykan (2017)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

A ring R is called a right PS -ring if its socle, Soc ( R R ) , is projective. Nicholson and Watters have shown that if R is a right PS -ring, then so are the polynomial ring R [ x ] and power series ring R [ [ x ] ] . In this paper, it is proved that, under suitable conditions, if R has a (flat) projective socle, then so does the skew inverse power series ring R [ [ x - 1 ; α , δ ] ] and the skew polynomial ring R [ x ; α , δ ] , where R is an associative ring equipped with an automorphism α and an α -derivation δ . Our results extend and unify many existing...

On some noetherian rings of C germs on a real closed field

Annales Polonici Mathematici

Similarity:

Let R be a real closed field, and denote by R , n the ring of germs, at the origin of Rⁿ, of C functions in a neighborhood of 0 ∈ Rⁿ. For each n ∈ ℕ, we construct a quasianalytic subring R , n R , n with some natural properties. We prove that, for each n ∈ ℕ, R , n is a noetherian ring and if R = ℝ (the field of real numbers), then , n = , where ₙ is the ring of germs, at the origin of ℝⁿ, of real analytic functions. Finally, we prove the Real Nullstellensatz and solve Hilbert’s 17th Problem for the ring R , n . ...

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

An n × n sign pattern 𝒜 is said to be potentially nilpotent if there exists a nilpotent real matrix B with the same sign pattern as 𝒜 . Let 𝒟 n , r be an n × n sign pattern with 2 r n such that the superdiagonal and the ( n , n ) entries are positive, the ( i , 1 ) ( i = 1 , , r ) and ( i , i - r + 1 ) ( i = r + 1 , , n ) entries are negative, and zeros elsewhere. We prove that for r 3 and n 4 r - 2 , the sign pattern 𝒟 n , r is not potentially nilpotent, and so not spectrally arbitrary.

Similarity:

Let R be a commutative ring. The annihilator graph of R , denoted by AG ( R ) , is the undirected graph with all nonzero zero-divisors of R as vertex set, and two distinct vertices x and y are adjacent if and only if ann R ( x y ) ann R ( x ) ann R ( y ) , where for z R , ann R ( z ) = { r R : r z = 0 } . In this paper, we characterize all finite commutative rings R with planar or outerplanar or ring-graph annihilator graphs. We characterize all finite commutative rings R whose annihilator graphs have clique number 1 , 2 or 3 . Also, we investigate some properties...

The rings which are Boolean

Discussiones Mathematicae - General Algebra and Applications

Similarity:

We study unitary rings of characteristic 2 satisfying identity x p = x for some natural number p. We characterize several infinite families of these rings which are Boolean, i.e., every element is idempotent. For example, it is in the case if p = 2 n - 2 or p = 2 n - 5 or p = 2 n + 1 for a suitable natural number n. Some other (more general) cases are solved for p expressed in the form 2 q + 2 m + 1 or 2 q + 2 m where q is a natural number and m 1 , 2 , . . . , 2 q - 1 .

Let K be a number field. It is well known that the set of recurrencesequences with entries in K is closed under component-wise operations, and so it can be equipped with a ring structure. We try to understand the structure of this ring, in particular to understand which algebraic equations have a solution in the ring. For the case of cyclic equations a conjecture due to Pisot states the following: assume { a n } is a recurrence sequence and suppose that all the a n have a d th root in the field...

Let k be a field of characteristic zero and B a k -domain. Let R be a retract of B being the kernel of a locally nilpotent derivation of B . We show that if B = R I for some principal ideal I (in particular, if B is a UFD), then B = R [ 1 ] , i.e., B is a polynomial algebra over R in one variable. It is natural to ask that, if a retract R of a k -UFD B is the kernel of two commuting locally nilpotent derivations of B , then does it follow that B R [ 2 ] ? We give a negative answer to this question. The interest in...
