Manin’s conjecture for a singular sextic del Pezzo surface

Daniel Loughran (2010)

Journal de Théorie des Nombres de Bordeaux

We prove Manin’s conjecture for a del Pezzo surface of degree six which has one singularity of type A 2 . Moreover, we achieve a meromorphic continuation and explicit expression of the associated height zeta function.

Mordell-Weil ranks of families of elliptic curves associated to Pythagorean triples

Bartosz Naskręcki (2013)

Acta Arithmetica

We study the family of elliptic curves y² = x(x-a²)(x-b²) parametrized by Pythagorean triples (a,b,c). We prove that for a generic triple the lower bound of the rank of the Mordell-Weil group over ℚ is 1, and for some explicitly given infinite family the rank is 2. To each family we attach an elliptic surface fibered over the projective line. We show that the lower bounds for the rank are optimal, in the sense that for each generic fiber of such an elliptic surface its corresponding Mordell-Weil...

Number of solutions of cubic Thue inequalities with positive discriminant

N. Saradha, Divyum Sharma (2015)

Acta Arithmetica

Let F(X,Y) be an irreducible binary cubic form with integer coefficients and positive discriminant D. Let k be a positive integer satisfying k < ( ( 3 D ) 1 / 4 ) / 2 π . We give improved upper bounds for the number of primitive solutions of the Thue inequality | F ( X , Y ) | k .

On a linear homogeneous congruence

A. Schinzel, M. Zakarczemny (2006)

Colloquium Mathematicae

The number of solutions of the congruence a x + + a k x k 0 ( m o d n ) in the box 0 x i b i is estimated from below in the best possible way, provided for all i,j either ( a i , n ) | ( a j , n ) or ( a j , n ) | ( a i , n ) or n | [ a i , a j ] .

On arithmetic progressions on Edwards curves

Enrique González-Jiménez (2015)

Acta Arithmetica

Let m > 0 and a,q ∈ ℚ. Denote by m ( a , q ) the set of rational numbers d such that a, a + q, ..., a + (m-1)q form an arithmetic progression in the Edwards curve E d : x ² + y ² = 1 + d x ² y ² . We study the set m ( a , q ) and we parametrize it by the rational points of an algebraic curve.

On fundamental solutions of binary quadratic form equations

Keith R. Matthews, John P. Robertson, Anitha Srinivasan (2015)

Acta Arithmetica

We show that, with suitable modification, the upper bound estimates of Stolt for the fundamental integer solutions of the Diophantine equation Au²+Buv+Cv²=N, where A>0, N≠0 and B²-4AC is positive and nonsquare, in fact characterize the fundamental solutions. As a corollary, we get a corresponding result for the equation u²-dv²=N, where d is positive and nonsquare, in which case the upper bound estimates were obtained by Nagell and Chebyshev.
