Jacobian Nullwerte, periods and symmetric equations for hyperelliptic curves

Jordi Guàrdia (2007)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

We propose a solution to the hyperelliptic Schottky problem, based on the use of Jacobian Nullwerte and symmetric models for hyperelliptic curves. Both ingredients are interesting on its own, since the first provide period matrices which can be geometrically described, and the second have remarkable arithmetic properties.

Local-global principle for Witt equivalence of function fields over global fields

Przemyslaw Koprowski (2002)

Colloquium Mathematicae

We examine the conditions for two algebraic function fields over global fields to be Witt equivalent. We develop a criterion solving the problem which is analogous to the local-global principle for Witt equivalence of global fields obtained by R. Perlis, K. Szymiczek, P. E. Conner and R. Litherland [12]. Subsequently, we derive some immediate consequences of this result. In particular we show that Witt equivalence of algebraic function fields (that have rational places) over global fields implies...

Non-trivial Ш in the Jacobian of an infinite family of curves of genus 2

Anna Arnth-Jensen, E. Victor Flynn (2009)

Journal de Théorie des Nombres de Bordeaux

We give an infinite family of curves of genus 2 whose Jacobians have non-trivial members of the Tate-Shafarevich group for descent via Richelot isogeny. We prove this by performing a descent via Richelot isogeny and a complete 2-descent on the isogenous Jacobian. We also give an explicit model of an associated family of surfaces which violate the Hasse principle.

On arithmetic progressions on Edwards curves

Enrique González-Jiménez (2015)

Acta Arithmetica

Let m > 0 and a,q ∈ ℚ. Denote by m ( a , q ) the set of rational numbers d such that a, a + q, ..., a + (m-1)q form an arithmetic progression in the Edwards curve E d : x ² + y ² = 1 + d x ² y ² . We study the set m ( a , q ) and we parametrize it by the rational points of an algebraic curve.

On the arithmetic of the hyperelliptic curve y 2 = x n + a

Kevser Aktaş, Hasan Şenay (2016)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

We study the arithmetic properties of hyperelliptic curves given by the affine equation y 2 = x n + a by exploiting the structure of the automorphism groups. We show that these curves satisfy Lang’s conjecture about the covering radius (for some special covering maps).
