Wave equation and multiplier estimates on ax + b groups

Detlef Müller, Christoph Thiele (2007)

Studia Mathematica

Let L be the distinguished Laplacian on certain semidirect products of ℝ by ℝⁿ which are of ax + b type. We prove pointwise estimates for the convolution kernels of spectrally localized wave operators of the form e i t L ψ ( L / λ ) for arbitrary time t and arbitrary λ > 0, where ψ is a smooth bump function supported in [-2,2] if λ ≤ 1 and in [1,2] if λ ≥ 1. As a corollary, we reprove a basic multiplier estimate of Hebisch and Steger [Math. Z. 245 (2003)] for this particular class of groups, and derive Sobolev...

Weak Closure Theorem fails for ℤ²-actions

T. Downarowicz, J. Kwiatkowski (2002)

Studia Mathematica

We construct an example of a Morse ℤ²-action which has rank one and whose centralizer contains elements which cannot be weakly approximated by the transformations of the action.

Weak continuity properties of topologized groups

J. Cao, R. Drozdowski, Zbigniew Piotrowski (2010)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

We explore (weak) continuity properties of group operations. For this purpose, the Novak number and developability number are applied. It is shown that if ( G , · , τ ) is a regular right (left) semitopological group with dev ( G ) < Nov ( G ) such that all left (right) translations are feebly continuous, then ( G , · , τ ) is a topological group. This extends several results in literature.
