On a class of elliptic differential operators degenerating at one point
I will start with a short review of the classical restriction theorem for the sphere and Strichartz estimates for the wave equation. I then plan to give a detailed presentation of their recent generalizations in the form of “bilinear estimates”. In addition to the theory, which is now quite well developed, I plan to discuss a more general point of view concerning the theory. By investigating simple examples I will derive necessary conditions for such estimates to be true. I also plan to discuss...
The Cauchy problem for the higher order equations in the mKdV hierarchy is investigated with data in the spaces defined by the norm . Local well-posedness for the jth equation is shown in the parameter range 2 ≥ 1, r > 1, s ≥ . The proof uses an appropriate variant of the Fourier restriction norm method. A counterexample is discussed to show that the Cauchy problem for equations of this type is in general ill-posed in the C 0-uniform sense, if s < . The results for r = 2 - so far in...
We study the statistical properties of the solutions of the Kadomstev-Petviashvili equations (KP-I and KP-II) on the torus when the initial datum is a random variable. We give ourselves a random variable with values in the Sobolev space with big enough such that its Fourier coefficients are independent from each other. We assume that the laws of these Fourier coefficients are invariant under multiplication by for all . We investigate about the persistence of the decorrelation between the...
The aim of this paper is to prove some properties of the solution to the Cauchy problem for the system of partial differential equations describing thermoelasticity of nonsimple materials proposed by D. Iesan. Explicit formulas for the Fourier transform and some estimates in Sobolev spaces for the solution of the Cauchy problem are proved.
This article presents the principal results of the doctoral thesis “Direct Operational Methods in the Environment of a Computer Algebra System” by Margarita Spiridonova (Institute of mathematics and Informatics, BAS), successfully defended before the Specialised Academic Council for Informatics and Mathematical Modelling on 23 March, 2009.The presented research is related to the operational calculus approach and its representative applications. Operational methods are considered, as well as their...
