The generalized FGM distribution and its application to stereology of extremes

Daniel Hlubinka, Samuel Kotz (2010)

Applications of Mathematics

The generalized FGM distribution and related copulas are used as bivariate models for the distribution of spheroidal characteristics. It is shown that this model is suitable for the study of extremes of the 3D spheroidal particles observed in terms of their random planar sections.

The optimal control chart procedure

Jaroslav Skřivánek (2004)

Kybernetika

The moving average (MA) chart, the exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) chart and the cumulative sum (CUSUM) chart are the most popular schemes for detecting shifts in a relevant process parameter. Any control chart system of span k is specified by a partition of the space k into three disjoint parts. We call this partition as the control chart frame of span k . A shift in the process parameter is signalled at time t by having the vector of the last k sample characteristics fall out of the...

The problem of determining estimators for different structural parameters in the case of credibility results for weighted contracts

Virginia Atanasiu (2007)

Mathematica Bohemica

This paper presents and analyzes the estimators of the structural parameters, in the Bühlmann-Straub model, involving complicated mathematical properties of conditional expectations and of conditional covariances. So to enable to use the better linear credibility results obtained in this model, we will provide useful estimators for the structure parameters. From the practical point of view it is stated the attractive property of unbiasedness for these estimators.

Theoretical aspects of total time on test transform of weighted variables and applications

Mojtaba Esfahani, Gholam Reza Mohtashami-Borzadaran, Mohammad Amini (2023)

Kybernetika

Although the total time on test (TTT) transform is not a newly discovered concept, it has many applications in various fields. On the other hand, weighted distributions are extensively developed by the statisticians to tackle the insufficiency of the standard statistical distributions in modeling the arising data from real-world problems in the contexts like medicine, ecology, and reliability engineering. This paper develops the TTT transform for the weighted random variables and investigates the...

Time delays in proliferation and apoptosis for solid avascular tumour

Urszula Foryś, Mikhail Kolev (2003)

Banach Center Publications

The role of time delays in solid avascular tumour growth is considered. The model is formulated in terms of a reaction-diffusion equation and mass conservation law. Two main processes are taken into account-proliferation and apoptosis. We introduce time delay first in underlying apoptosis only and then in both processes. In the absence of necrosis the model reduces to one ordinary differential equation with one discrete delay which describes the changes of tumour radius. Basic properties of the...
