Monotone subsequences in the sequence of fractional parts of multiples of an irrational.
Mathematics Subject Classification: 65C05, 60G50, 39A10, 92C37In this paper the multi-dimensional Monte-Carlo random walk simulation models governed by distributed fractional order differential equations (DODEs) and multi-term fractional order differential equations are constructed. The construction is based on the discretization leading to a generalized difference scheme (containing a finite number of terms in the time step and infinite number of terms in the space step) of the Cauchy problem for...
We address multiscale elliptic problems with random coefficients that are a perturbation of multiscale deterministic problems. Our approach consists in taking benefit of the perturbative context to suitably modify the classical Finite Element basis into a deterministic multiscale Finite Element basis. The latter essentially shares the same approximation properties as a multiscale Finite Element basis directly generated on the random problem. The specific reference method that we use is the Multiscale...
The approximate upper percentile of Hotelling's T²-type statistic is derived in order to construct simultaneous confidence intervals for comparisons with a control under elliptical populations with unequal sample sizes. Accuracy and conservativeness of Bonferroni approximations are evaluated via a Monte Carlo simulation study. Finally, we explain the real data analysis using procedures derived in this paper.
Two near-exact distributions for the generalized Wilks Lambda statistic, used to test the independence of several sets of variables with a multivariate normal distribution, are developed for the case where two or more of these sets have an odd number of variables. Using the concept of near-exact distribution and based on a factorization of the exact characteristic function we obtain two approximations, which are very close to the exact distribution but far more manageable. These near-exact distributions...
We introduce new estimates and tests of independence in copula models with unknown margins using -divergences and the duality technique. The asymptotic laws of the estimates and the test statistics are established both when the parameter is an interior or a boundary value of the parameter space. Simulation results show that the choice of -divergence has good properties in terms of efficiency-robustness.
To filter perturbed local measurements on a random medium, a dynamic model jointly with an observation transfer equation are needed. Some media given by PDE could have a local probabilistic representation by a Lagrangian stochastic process with mean-field interactions. In this case, we define the acquisition process of locally homogeneous medium along a random path by a Lagrangian Markov process conditioned to be in a domain following the path and conditioned to the observations. The nonlinear...
The paper deals with a filter design for nonlinear continuous stochastic systems with discrete-time measurements. The general recursive solution is given by the Fokker–Planck equation (FPE) and by the Bayesian rule. The stress is laid on the computation of the predictive conditional probability density function from the FPE. The solution of the FPE and its integration into the estimation algorithm is the cornerstone for the whole recursive computation. A new usable numerical scheme for the FPE is...
The paper gives an overview of feature selection techniques in statistical pattern recognition with particular emphasis on methods developed within the Institute of Information Theory and Automation research team throughout recent years. Besides discussing the advances in methodology since times of Perez’s pioneering work the paper attempts to put the methods into a taxonomical framework. The methods discussed include the latest variants of the optimal algorithms, enhanced sub-optimal techniques...
This paper deals with order identification for Markov chains with Markov regime (MCMR) in the context of finite alphabets. We define the joint order of a MCMR process in terms of the number k of states of the hidden Markov chain and the memory m of the conditional Markov chain. We study the properties of penalized maximum likelihood estimators for the unknown order (k, m) of an observed MCMR process, relying on information theoretic arguments. The novelty of our work relies in the joint...
In this paper we study different algorithms for backward stochastic differential equations (BSDE in short) basing on random walk framework for 1-dimensional Brownian motion. Implicit and explicit schemes for both BSDE and reflected BSDE are introduced. Then we prove the convergence of different algorithms and present simulation results for different types of BSDEs.
