A hybrid scheme to compute contact discontinuities in one-dimensional Euler systems

Thierry Gallouët, Jean-Marc Hérard, Nicolas Seguin (2002)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis - Modélisation Mathématique et Analyse Numérique

The present paper is devoted to the computation of single phase or two phase flows using the single-fluid approach. Governing equations rely on Euler equations which may be supplemented by conservation laws for mass species. Emphasis is given on numerical modelling with help of Godunov scheme or an approximate form of Godunov scheme called VFRoe-ncv based on velocity and pressure variables. Three distinct classes of closure laws to express the internal energy in terms of pressure, density and additional...

Comportamiento asintótico de las ecuaciones de la termoelasticidad generalizada.

Alberto Falqués Serra (1982)

Stochastica

In this paper it is first shown that the linear evolution equations for a generalized thermoelastic solid generate a C0 semigroup. Next an analysis of the long time evolution behaviour yields the some results known for classical thermoelasticity: generically, the natural state is asymptotically stable.

On a diphasic low Mach number system

Stéphane Dellacherie (2005)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis - Modélisation Mathématique et Analyse Numérique

We propose a Diphasic Low Mach Number (DLMN) system for the modelling of diphasic flows without phase change at low Mach number, system which is an extension of the system proposed by Majda in [Center of Pure and Applied Mathematics, Berkeley, report No. 112] and [Combust. Sci. Tech. 42 (1985) 185–205] for low Mach number combustion problems. This system is written for a priori any equations of state. Under minimal thermodynamic hypothesis which are satisfied by a large class of generalized van...

The entropy principle: from continuum mechanics to hyperbolic systems of balance laws

Tommaso Ruggeri (2005)

Bollettino dell'Unione Matematica Italiana

We discuss the different roles of the entropy principle in modern thermodynamics. We start with the approach of rational thermodynamics in which the entropy principle becomes a selection rule for physical constitutive equations. Then we discuss the entropy principle for selecting admissible discontinuous weak solutions and to symmetrize general systems of hyperbolic balance laws. A particular attention is given on the local and global well-posedness of the relative Cauchy problem for smooth solutions....

Thermodynamics of DNA microarrays

Enrico Carlon (2008)

Banach Center Publications

DNA microarrays have been widely used in molecular biology laboratories. The main current application of these devices is the determination of the gene expression level for thousands of genes simultaneously. Here we review a recently introduced physical model for hybridization (i.e. the binding of complementary DNA strands) in Affymetrix arrays and compare it to experimental results. The experimental data follow rather well the microscopic model and the approach offers several advantages compared...
