Dynamical directions in numeration

Guy Barat, Valérie Berthé, Pierre Liardet, Jörg Thuswaldner (2006)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

This survey aims at giving a consistent presentation of numeration from a dynamical viewpoint: we focus on numeration systems, their associated compactification, and dynamical systems that can be naturally defined on them. The exposition is unified by the fibred numeration system concept. Many examples are discussed. Various numerations on rational integers, real or complex numbers are presented with special attention paid to β -numeration and its generalisations, abstract numeration systems and...

Ergodic averages with deterministic weights

Fabien Durand, Dominique Schneider (2002)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

We study the convergence of the ergodic averages 1 N k = 0 N - 1 θ ( k ) f T u k where ( θ ( k ) ) k is a bounded sequence and ( u k ) k a strictly increasing sequence of integers such that Sup α | k = 0 N - 1 θ ( k ) exp ( 2 i π α u k ) | = O ( N δ ) for some δ < 1 . Moreover we give explicit such sequences θ and u and we investigate in particular the case where θ is a q -multiplicative sequence.

Generic points in the cartesian powers of the Morse dynamical system

Emmanuel Lesigne, Anthony Quas, Máté Wierdl (2003)

Bulletin de la Société Mathématique de France

The symbolic dynamical system associated with the Morse sequence is strictly ergodic. We describe some topological and metrical properties of the Cartesian powers of this system, and some of its other self-joinings. Among other things, we show that non generic points appear in the fourth power of the system, but not in lower powers. We exhibit various examples and counterexamples related to the property of weak disjointness of measure preserving dynamical systems.

Harmonic measures versus quasiconformal measures for hyperbolic groups

Sébastien Blachère, Peter Haïssinsky, Pierre Mathieu (2011)

Annales scientifiques de l'École Normale Supérieure

We establish a dimension formula for the harmonic measure of a finitely supported and symmetric random walk on a hyperbolic group. We also characterize random walks for which this dimension is maximal. Our approach is based on the Green metric, a metric which provides a geometric point of view on random walks and, in particular, which allows us to interpret harmonic measures as quasiconformal measures on the boundary of the group.
