Implicit functions from locally convex spaces to Banach spaces

Seppo Hiltunen (1999)

Studia Mathematica

We first generalize the classical implicit function theorem of Hildebrandt and Graves to the case where we have a Keller C Π k -map f defined on an open subset of E×F and with values in F, for E an arbitrary Hausdorff locally convex space and F a Banach space. As an application, we prove that under a certain transversality condition the preimage of a submanifold is a submanifold for a map from a Fréchet manifold to a Banach manifold.

Improved estimates for the Ginzburg-Landau equation : the elliptic case

Fabrice Bethuel, Giandomenico Orlandi, Didier Smets (2005)

Annali della Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa - Classe di Scienze

We derive estimates for various quantities which are of interest in the analysis of the Ginzburg-Landau equation, and which we bound in terms of the G L -energy E ε and the parameter ε . These estimates are local in nature, and in particular independent of any boundary condition. Most of them improve and extend earlier results on the subject.

In search of the invisible spectrum

Nikolai Nikolski (1999)

Annales de l'institut Fourier

In this paper, we begin the study of the phenomenon of the “invisible spectrum” for commutative Banach algebras. Function algebras, formal power series and operator algebras will be considered. A quantitative treatment of the famous Wiener-Pitt-Sreider phenomenon for measure algebras on locally compact abelian (LCA) groups is given. Also, our approach includes efficient sharp estimates for resolvents and solutions of higher Bezout equations in terms of their spectral bounds. The smallest “spectral...

Incomparable, non-isomorphic and minimal Banach spaces

Christian Rosendal (2004)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

A Banach space contains either a minimal subspace or a continuum of incomparable subspaces. General structure results for analytic equivalence relations are applied in the context of Banach spaces to show that if E₀ does not reduce to isomorphism of the subspaces of a space, in particular, if the subspaces of the space admit a classification up to isomorphism by real numbers, then any subspace with an unconditional basis is isomorphic to its square and hyperplanes, and the unconditional basis has...

Indefinite numerical range of 3 × 3 matrices

N. Bebiano, J. da Providência, R. Teixeira (2009)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

The point equation of the associated curve of the indefinite numerical range is derived, following Fiedler’s approach for definite inner product spaces. The classification of the associated curve is presented in the 3 × 3 indefinite case, using Newton’s classification of cubic curves. Illustrative examples of all the different possibilities are given. The results obtained extend to Krein spaces results of Kippenhahn on the classical numerical range.
