Polar wavelets and associated Littlewood-Paley theory

Epperson Jay, Frazier Michael

Similarity:

Abstract We develop an almost orthogonal wavelet-type expansion in ℝ² which is adapted to polar coordinates. We start by defining a product Fourier-Hankel transform f̂ and proving a sampling formula for f such that f̂ is compactly supported. For general f, the sampling formula and a partition of unity lead to an identity of the form f = μ , k , m f , φ μ k m ψ μ k m , in which each function φ μ k m and ψ μ k m is concentrated near a certain annular sector, has compactly supported product Fourier-Hankel transform, and is smooth...

Júlia Komjáthy, Jason Miller, Yuval Peres (2014)

Annales de l'I.H.P. Probabilités et statistiques

Similarity:

Suppose that 𝒢 is a finite, connected graph and X is a lazy random walk on 𝒢 . The lamplighter chain X associated with X is the random walk on the wreath product 𝒢 = 𝐙 2 𝒢 , the graph whose vertices consist of pairs ( f ̲ , x ) where f is a labeling of the vertices of 𝒢 by elements of 𝐙 2 = { 0 , 1 } and x is a vertex in 𝒢 . There is an edge between ( f ̲ , x ) and ( g ̲ , y ) in 𝒢 if and only if x is adjacent to y in 𝒢 and f z = g z for all z x , y . In each step, X moves from a configuration ( f ̲ , x ) by updating x to y using the transition rule of X and then...

On the r -free values of the polynomial x 2 + y 2 + z 2 + k

Gongrui Chen, Wenxiao Wang (2023)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

Let k be a fixed integer. We study the asymptotic formula of R ( H , r , k ) , which is the number of positive integer solutions 1 x , y , z H such that the polynomial x 2 + y 2 + z 2 + k is r -free. We obtained the asymptotic formula of R ( H , r , k ) for all r 2 . Our result is new even in the case r = 2 . We proved that R ( H , 2 , k ) = c k H 3 + O ( H 9 / 4 + ε ) , where c k > 0 is a constant depending on k . This improves upon the error term O ( H 7 / 3 + ε ) obtained by G.-L. Zhou, Y. Ding (2022).

Stratified Whitney jets and tempered ultradistributions on the subanalytic site

Bulletin de la Société Mathématique de France

Similarity:

In this paper we introduce the sheaf of stratified Whitney jets of Gevrey order on the subanalytic site relative to a real analytic manifold X . Then, we define stratified ultradistributions of Beurling and Roumieu type on X . In the end, by means of stratified ultradistributions, we define tempered-stratified ultradistributions and we prove two results. First, if X is a real surface, the tempered-stratified ultradistributions define a sheaf on the subanalytic site relative to X . Second,...

We investigate the recovery of k -sparse signals using the 1 - 2 minimization model with prior support set information. The prior support set information, which is believed to contain the indices of nonzero signal elements, significantly enhances the performance of compressive recovery by improving accuracy, efficiency, reducing complexity, expanding applicability, and enhancing robustness. We assume k -sparse signals 𝐱 with the prior support T which is composed of g true indices and b wrong...

Asymptotic analysis and sign-changing bubble towers for Lane–Emden problems

Francesca De Marchis, Isabella Ianni, Filomena Pacella (2015)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

We consider the semilinear Lane–Emden problem where p > 1 and Ω is a smooth bounded domain of 2 . The aim of the paper is to analyze the asymptotic behavior of sign changing solutions of ( p ) , as p + . Among other results we show, under some symmetry assumptions on Ω , that the positive and negative parts of a family of symmetric solutions concentrate at the same point, as p + , and the limit profile looks like a tower of two bubbles given by a superposition of a regular and a singular solution of...

Bulletin de la Société Mathématique de France

Similarity:

In this paper we prove the following results. First, we show the existence of Wiener-Wintner dynamical system with continuous singular spectrum in the orthocomplement of their respective Kronecker factors. The second result states that if f L p , p large enough, is a Wiener-Wintner function then, for all γ ( 1 + 1 2 p - β 2 , 1 ] , there exists a set X f of full measure for which the series n = 1 f ( T n x ) e 2 π i n ϵ n γ converges uniformly with respect to ϵ .

Let Ω be a bounded domain of class C 2 in N and let K be a compact subset of Ω . Assume that q ( N + 1 ) / ( N 1 ) and denote by U K the maximal solution of Δ u + u q = 0 in Ω which vanishes on Ω K . We obtain sharp upper and lower estimates for U K in terms of the Bessel capacity C 2 / q , q ' and prove that U K is σ -moderate. In addition we describe the precise asymptotic behavior of U K at points σ K , which depends on the “density” of K at σ , measured in terms of the capacity C 2 / q , q ' .

Our main purpose is to establish the existence of a positive solution of the system ⎧ - p ( x ) u = F ( x , u , v ) , x ∈ Ω, ⎨ - q ( x ) v = H ( x , u , v ) , x ∈ Ω, ⎩u = v = 0, x ∈ ∂Ω, where Ω N is a bounded domain with C² boundary, F ( x , u , v ) = λ p ( x ) [ g ( x ) a ( u ) + f ( v ) ] , H ( x , u , v ) = λ q ( x ) [ g ( x ) b ( v ) + h ( u ) ] , λ > 0 is a parameter, p(x),q(x) are functions which satisfy some conditions, and - p ( x ) u = - d i v ( | u | p ( x ) - 2 u ) is called the p(x)-Laplacian. We give existence results and consider the asymptotic behavior of solutions near the boundary. We do not assume any symmetry conditions on the system.

C * -points vs P -points and P -points

Similarity:

In a Tychonoff space X , the point p X is called a C * -point if every real-valued continuous function on C { p } can be extended continuously to p . Every point in an extremally disconnected space is a C * -point. A classic example is the space 𝐖 * = ω 1 + 1 consisting of the countable ordinals together with ω 1 . The point ω 1 is known to be a C * -point as well as a P -point. We supply a characterization of C * -points in totally ordered spaces. The remainder of our time is aimed at studying when a point in a product space...

Selectors of discrete coarse spaces

Given a coarse space ( X , ) with the bornology of bounded subsets, we extend the coarse structure from X × X to the natural coarse structure on ( { } ) × ( { } ) and say that a macro-uniform mapping f : ( { } ) X (or f : [ X ] 2 X ) is a selector (or 2-selector) of ( X , ) if f ( A ) A for each A { } ( A [ X ] 2 , respectively). We prove that a discrete coarse space ( X , ) admits a selector if and only if ( X , ) admits a 2-selector if and only if there exists a linear order “ " on X such that the family of intervals { [ a , b ] : a , b X , a b } is a base for the bornology .

Generalized versions of Ilmanen lemma: Insertion of C 1 , ω or C loc 1 , ω functions

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Similarity:

We prove that for a normed linear space X , if f 1 : X is continuous and semiconvex with modulus ω , f 2 : X is continuous and semiconcave with modulus ω and f 1 f 2 , then there exists f C 1 , ω ( X ) such that f 1 f f 2 . Using this result we prove a generalization of Ilmanen lemma (which deals with the case ω ( t ) = t ) to the case of an arbitrary nontrivial modulus ω . This generalization (where a C l o c 1 , ω function is inserted) gives a positive answer to a problem formulated by A. Fathi and M. Zavidovique in 2010.

The relation between the number of leaves of a tree and its diameter

Pu Qiao, Xingzhi Zhan (2022)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

Let L ( n , d ) denote the minimum possible number of leaves in a tree of order n and diameter d . Lesniak (1975) gave the lower bound B ( n , d ) = 2 ( n - 1 ) / d for L ( n , d ) . When d is even, B ( n , d ) = L ( n , d ) . But when d is odd, B ( n , d ) is smaller than L ( n , d ) in general. For example, B ( 21 , 3 ) = 14 while L ( 21 , 3 ) = 19 . In this note, we determine L ( n , d ) using new ideas. We also consider the converse problem and determine the minimum possible diameter of a tree with given order and number of leaves.
