Smooth double subvarieties on singular varieties, III

M. R. Gonzalez-Dorrego (2016)

Banach Center Publications

Similarity:

Let k be an algebraically closed field, char k = 0. Let C be an irreducible nonsingular curve such that rC = S ∩ F, r ∈ ℕ, where S and F are two surfaces and all the singularities of F are of the form z ³ = x 3 s - y 3 s , s ∈ ℕ. We prove that C can never pass through such kind of singularities of a surface, unless r = 3a, a ∈ ℕ. We study multiplicity-r structures on varieties r ∈ ℕ. Let Z be a reduced irreducible nonsingular (n-1)-dimensional variety such that rZ = X ∩ F, where X is a normal n-fold, F...

Finiteness of cominuscule quantum K -theory

Anders S. Buch, Pierre-Emmanuel Chaput, Leonardo C. Mihalcea, Nicolas Perrin (2013)

Annales scientifiques de l'École Normale Supérieure

Similarity:

The product of two Schubert classes in the quantum K -theory ring of a homogeneous space X = G / P is a formal power series with coefficients in the Grothendieck ring of algebraic vector bundles on  X . We show that if X is cominuscule, then this power series has only finitely many non-zero terms. The proof is based on a geometric study of boundary Gromov-Witten varieties in the Kontsevich moduli space, consisting of stable maps to  X that take the marked points to general Schubert varieties and...

Estimates of the number of rational mappings from a fixed variety to varieties of general type

Tanya Bandman, Gerd Dethloff (1997)

Annales de l'institut Fourier

Similarity:

First we find effective bounds for the number of dominant rational maps f : X Y between two fixed smooth projective varieties with ample canonical bundles. The bounds are of the type { A · K X n } { B · K X n } 2 , where n = dim X , K X is the canonical bundle of X and A , B are some constants, depending only on n . Then we show that for any variety X there exist numbers c ( X ) and C ( X ) with the following properties: For any threefold Y of general type the number of dominant rational maps f : X Y is bounded above by c ( X ) . ...

Nakamaye’s theorem on log canonical pairs

Salvatore Cacciola, Angelo Felice Lopez (2014)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

Similarity:

We generalize Nakamaye’s description, via intersection theory, of the augmented base locus of a big and nef divisor on a normal pair with log-canonical singularities or, more generally, on a normal variety with non-lc locus of dimension 1 . We also generalize Ein-Lazarsfeld-Mustaţă-Nakamaye-Popa’s description, in terms of valuations, of the subvarieties of the restricted base locus of a big divisor on a normal pair with klt singularities.

Springer fiber components in the two columns case for types A and D are normal

Nicolas Perrin, Evgeny Smirnov (2012)

Bulletin de la Société Mathématique de France

Similarity:

We study the singularities of the irreducible components of the Springer fiber over a nilpotent element N with N 2 = 0 in a Lie algebra of type A or D (the so-called two columns case). We use Frobenius splitting techniques to prove that these irreducible components are normal, Cohen–Macaulay, and have rational singularities.

Asymptotics of eigensections on toric varieties

A. Huckleberry, H. Sebert (2013)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

Similarity:

Using exhaustion properties of invariant plurisubharmonic functions along with basic combinatorial information on toric varieties, we prove convergence results for sequences of densities | ϕ n | 2 = | s N | 2 / | | s N | | L 2 2 for eigensections s N Γ ( X , L N ) approaching a semiclassical ray. Here X is a normal compact toric variety and L is an ample line bundle equipped with an arbitrary positive bundle metric which is invariant with respect to the compact form of the torus. Our work was motivated by and extends that of Shiffman, Tate...

Equivalence problem for minimal rational curves with isotrivial varieties of minimal rational tangents

Jun-Muk Hwang (2010)

Annales scientifiques de l'École Normale Supérieure

Similarity:

We formulate the equivalence problem, in the sense of É. Cartan, for families of minimal rational curves on uniruled projective manifolds. An important invariant of this equivalence problem is the variety of minimal rational tangents. We study the case when varieties of minimal rational tangents at general points form an isotrivial family. The main question in this case is for which projective variety Z , a family of minimal rational curves with Z -isotrivial varieties of minimal rational...

μ -constant monodromy groups and marked singularities

Claus Hertling (2011)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

Similarity:

μ -constant families of holomorphic function germs with isolated singularities are considered from a global perspective. First, a monodromy group from all families which contain a fixed singularity is studied. It consists of automorphisms of the Milnor lattice which respect not only the intersection form, but also the Seifert form and the monodromy. We conjecture that it contains all such automorphisms, modulo ± id . Second, marked singularities are defined and global moduli...

Lagrangian fibrations on generalized Kummer varieties

Martin G. Gulbrandsen (2007)

Bulletin de la Société Mathématique de France

Similarity:

We investigate the existence of Lagrangian fibrations on the generalized Kummer varieties of Beauville. For a principally polarized abelian surface A of Picard number one we find the following: The Kummer variety K n A is birationally equivalent to another irreducible symplectic variety admitting a Lagrangian fibration, if and only if n is a perfect square. And this is the case if and only if K n A carries a divisor with vanishing Beauville-Bogomolov square.

Positivity and Kleiman transversality in equivariant K -theory of homogeneous spaces

Dave Anderson, Stephen Griffeth, Ezra Miller (2011)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

We prove the conjectures of Graham–Kumar [GrKu08] and Griffeth–Ram [GrRa04] concerning the alternation of signs in the structure constants for torus-equivariant K -theory of generalized flag varieties G / P . These results are immediate consequences of an equivariant homological Kleiman transversality principle for the Borel mixing spaces of homogeneous spaces, and their subvarieties, under a natural group action with finitely many orbits. The computation of the coefficients in the expansion...

Equivariant K-theory of flag varieties revisited and related results

V. Uma (2013)

Colloquium Mathematicae

Similarity:

We obtain several several results on the multiplicative structure constants of the T-equivariant Grothendieck ring K T ( G / B ) of the flag variety G/B. We do this by lifting the classes of the structure sheaves of Schubert varieties in K T ( G / B ) to R(T) ⊗ R(T), where R(T) denotes the representation ring of the torus T. We further apply our results to describe the multiplicative structure constants of K ( X ) where X denotes the wonderful compactification of the adjoint group of G, in terms of the structure...

k-Normalization and (k+1)-level inflation of varieties

Valerie Cheng, Shelly Wismath (2008)

Discussiones Mathematicae - General Algebra and Applications

Similarity:

Let τ be a type of algebras. A common measurement of the complexity of terms of type τ is the depth of a term. For k ≥ 1, an identity s ≈ t of type τ is said to be k-normal (with respect to this depth complexity measurement) if either s = t or both s and t have depth ≥ k. A variety is called k-normal if all its identities are k-normal. Taking k = 1 with respect to the usual depth valuation of terms gives the well-known property of normality of identities or varieties. For any variety...

The end curve theorem for normal complex surface singularities

Walter D. Neumann, Jonathan Wahl (2010)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

We prove the “End Curve Theorem,” which states that a normal surface singularity ( X , o ) with rational homology sphere link Σ is a splice quotient singularity if and only if it has an end curve function for each leaf of a good resolution tree. An “end curve function” is an analytic function ( X , o ) ( , 0 ) whose zero set intersects Σ in the knot given by a meridian curve of the exceptional curve corresponding to the given leaf. A “splice quotient singularity” ( X , o ) is described by giving an explicit set of...

Singularities of Maxwell’s system in non-hilbertian Sobolev spaces

Annali della Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa - Classe di Scienze

Similarity:

We study the regularity of the solution of the regularized electric Maxwell problem in a polygonal domain with data in L p ( Ω ) 2 . Using a duality method, we prove a decomposition of the solution into a regular part in the non-Hilbertian Sobolev space W 2 , p ( Ω ) 2 and an explicit singular one.

The deformation relation on the set of Cohen-Macaulay modules on a quotient surface singularity

Trond Stølen Gustavsen, Runar Ile (2011)

Banach Center Publications

Similarity:

Let X be a quotient surface singularity, and define G d e f ( X , r ) as the directed graph of maximal Cohen-Macaulay (MCM) modules with edges corresponding to deformation incidences. We conjecture that the number of connected components of G d e f ( X , r ) is equal to the order of the divisor class group of X, and when X is a rational double point (RDP), we observe that this follows from a result of A. Ishii. We view this as an enrichment of the McKay correspondence. For a general quotient singularity X, we prove...

Theta height and Faltings height

Fabien Pazuki (2012)

Bulletin de la Société Mathématique de France

Similarity:

Using original ideas from J.-B. Bost and S. David, we provide an explicit comparison between the Theta height and the stable Faltings height of a principally polarized Abelian variety. We also give as an application an explicit upper bound on the number of K -rational points of a curve of genus g 2 under a conjecture of S. Lang and J. Silverman. We complete the study with a comparison between differential lattice structures.
