Real method of interpolation on subcouples of codimension one

S. V. Astashkin, P. Sunehag (2008)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

We find necessary and sufficient conditions under which the norms of the interpolation spaces ( N , N ) θ , q and ( X , X ) θ , q are equivalent on N, where N is the kernel of a nonzero functional ψ ∈ (X₀ ∩ X₁)* and N i is the normed space N with the norm inherited from X i (i = 0,1). Our proof is based on reducing the problem to its partial case studied by Ivanov and Kalton, where ψ is bounded on one of the endpoint spaces. As an application we completely resolve the problem of when the range of the operator T θ = S - 2 θ I (S...

Structure of Cesàro function spaces: a survey

Sergey V. Astashkin, Lech Maligranda (2014)

Banach Center Publications

Similarity:

Geometric structure of Cesàro function spaces C e s p ( I ) , where I = [0,1] and [0,∞), is investigated. Among other matters we present a description of their dual spaces, characterize the sets of all q ∈ [1,∞] such that C e s p [ 0 , 1 ] contains isomorphic and complemented copies of l q -spaces, show that Cesàro function spaces fail the fixed point property, give a description of subspaces generated by Rademacher functions in spaces C e s p [ 0 , 1 ] .

The Lizorkin-Freitag formula for several weighted L p spaces and vector-valued interpolation

Irina Asekritova, Natan Krugljak, Ludmila Nikolova (2005)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

A complete description of the real interpolation space L = ( L p ( ω ) , . . . , L p ( ω ) ) θ , q is given. An interesting feature of the result is that the whole measure space (Ω,μ) can be divided into disjoint pieces Ω i (i ∈ I) such that L is an l q sum of the restrictions of L to Ω i , and L on each Ω i is a result of interpolation of just two weighted L p spaces. The proof is based on a generalization of some recent results of the first two authors concerning real interpolation of vector-valued spaces.

Generalized versions of Ilmanen lemma: Insertion of C 1 , ω or C loc 1 , ω functions

Václav Kryštof (2018)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Similarity:

We prove that for a normed linear space X , if f 1 : X is continuous and semiconvex with modulus ω , f 2 : X is continuous and semiconcave with modulus ω and f 1 f 2 , then there exists f C 1 , ω ( X ) such that f 1 f f 2 . Using this result we prove a generalization of Ilmanen lemma (which deals with the case ω ( t ) = t ) to the case of an arbitrary nontrivial modulus ω . This generalization (where a C l o c 1 , ω function is inserted) gives a positive answer to a problem formulated by A. Fathi and M. Zavidovique in 2010.

Let θ ( 0 , 1 ) , λ [ 0 , 1 ) and p , p 0 , p 1 ( 1 , ] be such that ( 1 - θ ) / p 0 + θ / p 1 = 1 / p , and let ϕ , ϕ 0 , ϕ 1 be some admissible functions such that ϕ , ϕ 0 p / p 0 and ϕ 1 p / p 1 are equivalent. We first prove that, via the ± interpolation method, the interpolation L ϕ 0 p 0 ) , λ ( 𝒳 ) , L ϕ 1 p 1 ) , λ ( 𝒳 ) , θ of two generalized grand Morrey spaces on a quasi-metric measure space 𝒳 is the generalized grand Morrey space L ϕ p ) , λ ( 𝒳 ) . Then, by using block functions, we also find a predual space of the generalized grand Morrey space. These results are new even for generalized grand Lebesgue spaces.

On the H-property and rotundity of Cesàro direct sums of Banach spaces

Banach Center Publications

Similarity:

In this paper, we define the direct sum ( i = 1 n X i ) c e s p of Banach spaces X₁,X₂,..., and Xₙ and consider it equipped with the Cesàro p-norm when 1 ≤ p < ∞. We show that ( i = 1 n X i ) c e s p has the H-property if and only if each X i has the H-property, and ( i = 1 n X i ) c e s p has the Schur property if and only if each X i has the Schur property. Moreover, we also show that ( i = 1 n X i ) c e s p is rotund if and only if each X i is rotund.

Equivalence of measures of smoothness in L p ( S d - 1 ) , 1 < p < ∞

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

Suppose Δ̃ is the Laplace-Beltrami operator on the sphere S d - 1 , Δ ρ k f ( x ) = Δ ρ Δ ρ k - 1 f ( x ) and Δ ρ f ( x ) = f ( ρ x ) - f ( x ) where ρ ∈ SO(d). Then ω m ( f , t ) L p ( S d - 1 ) s u p Δ ρ m f L p ( S d - 1 ) : ρ S O ( d ) , m a x x S d - 1 ρ x · x c o s t and K ̃ ( f , t m ) p i n f f - g L p ( S d - 1 ) + t m ( - Δ ̃ ) m / 2 g L p ( S d - 1 ) : g ( ( - Δ ̃ ) m / 2 ) are equivalent for 1 < p < ∞. We note that for even m the relation was recently investigated by the second author. The equivalence yields an extension of the results on sharp Jackson inequalities on the sphere. A new strong converse inequality for L p ( S d - 1 ) given in this paper plays a significant role in the proof.

Operator Figà-Talamanca-Herz algebras

Let G be a locally compact group. We use the canonical operator space structure on the spaces L p ( G ) for p ∈ [1,∞] introduced by G. Pisier to define operator space analogues O A p ( G ) of the classical Figà-Talamanca-Herz algebras A p ( G ) . If p ∈ (1,∞) is arbitrary, then A p ( G ) O A p ( G ) and the inclusion is a contraction; if p = 2, then OA₂(G) ≅ A(G) as Banach spaces, but not necessarily as operator spaces. We show that O A p ( G ) is a completely contractive Banach algebra for each p ∈ (1,∞), and that O A q ( G ) O A p ( G ) completely contractively...

The main local result is that it is consistent that ( c ( ) ) does not embed isomorphically into / c , where is the cardinality of the continuum,...

The weak Gelfand-Phillips property in spaces of compact operators

For Banach spaces X and Y , let K w * ( X * , Y ) denote the space of all w * - w continuous compact operators from X * to Y endowed with the operator norm. A Banach space X has the w G P property if every Grothendieck subset of X is relatively weakly compact. In this paper we study Banach spaces with property w G P . We investigate whether the spaces K w * ( X * , Y ) and X ϵ Y have the w G P property, when X and Y have the w G P property.

On almost everywhere differentiability of the metric projection on closed sets in l p ( n ) , 2 < p <

We consider the case 2 < p < and prove that the i th component P i ( x ) of P ( x ) is differentiable a.e. if P i ( x ) x i and satisfies Hölder condition of order 1 / ( p - 1 ) if P i ( x ) = x i .

C * -points vs P -points and P -points

In a Tychonoff space X , the point p X is called a C * -point if every real-valued continuous function on C { p } can be extended continuously to p . The point ω 1 is known to be a C * -point as well as a P -point. We supply a characterization of C * -points in totally ordered spaces. The remainder of our time is aimed at studying when a point in a product space...
