A constructive proof of equivalence of formalism of DCG's with the formalism of type 0 phrase-structure grammars.
We present a system providing a set of tools for developing natural language processing (NLP) applications such as natural language interfaces, communication aid systems, etc. This system is based on two principles: modularity of knowledge representation to ensure the portability of the system, and guided sentence composition to ensure transparency, i.e. to ensure that the produced sentences are well-formed at the lexical, syntactic, semantic and conceptual levels. We first describe the formalisms...
This paper describes UIO, a multi–domain question–answering system for the Czech language that looks for answers on the web. UIO exploits two fields, namely natural language interface to databases and question answering. In its current version, UIO can be used for asking questions about train and coach timetables, cinema and theatre performances, about currency exchange rates, name–days and on the Diderot Encyclopaedia. Much effort have been made into making addition of a new domain very easy. No...
An important field of probability logic is the investigation of inference rules that propagate point probabilities or, more generally, interval probabilities from premises to conclusions. Conditional probability logic (CPL) interprets the common sense expressions of the form “if ..., then ...” by conditional probabilities and not by the probability of the material implication. An inference rule is probabilistically informative if the coherent probability interval of its conclusion is not necessarily...
We define the class of discrete classical categorial grammars, similar in the spirit to the notion of reversible class of languages introduced by Angluin and Sakakibara. We show that the class of discrete classical categorial grammars is identifiable from positive structured examples. For this, we provide an original algorithm, which runs in quadratic time in the size of the examples. This work extends the previous results of Kanazawa. Indeed, in our work, several types can be associated to a word...
In [vB88], Johan van Benthem introduces Relational Semantics (RelSem for short), and states Soundness Theorem for Lambek Calculus (LC) w.r.t. RelSem. After doing this, he writes: "it would be very interesting to have the converse too", i.e., to have Completeness Theorem. The same question is in [vB91, p. 235]. In the following, we state Strong Completeness Theorems for different versions of LC.
