Representation of finite groups and the first Betti number of branched coverings of a universal Borromean orbifold

Masahito Toda (2004)

Open Mathematics

The paper studies the first homology of finite regular branched coverings of a universal Borromean orbifold called B 4,4,4ℍ3. We investigate the irreducible components of the first homology as a representation space of the finite covering transformation group G. This gives information on the first betti number of finite coverings of general 3-manifolds by the universality of B 4,4,4. The main result of the paper is a criterion in terms of the irreducible character whether a given irreducible representation...

Representation theory of two-dimensionalbrauer graph rings

Wolfgang Rump (2000)

Colloquium Mathematicae

We consider a class of two-dimensional non-commutative Cohen-Macaulay rings to which a Brauer graph, that is, a finite graph endowed with a cyclic ordering of edges at any vertex, can be associated in a natural way. Some orders Λ over a two-dimensional regular local ring are of this type. They arise, e.g., as certain blocks of Hecke algebras over the completion of [ q , q - 1 ] at (p,q-1) for some rational prime p . For such orders Λ, a class of indecomposable maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules (see introduction)...

Representations of the general linear group over symmetry classes of polynomials

Yousef Zamani, Mahin Ranjbari (2018)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Let V be the complex vector space of homogeneous linear polynomials in the variables x 1 , ... , x m . Suppose G is a subgroup of S m , and χ is an irreducible character of G . Let H d ( G , χ ) be the symmetry class of polynomials of degree d with respect to G and χ . For any linear operator T acting on V , there is a (unique) induced operator K χ ( T ) End ( H d ( G , χ ) ) acting on symmetrized decomposable polynomials by K χ ( T ) ( f 1 * f 2 * ... * f d ) = T f 1 * T f 2 * ... * T f d . In this paper, we show that the representation T K χ ( T ) of the general linear group G L ( V ) is equivalent to the direct sum of χ ( 1 ) copies of a representation...
