Endotrivial modules over groups with quaternion or semi-dihedral Sylow 2-subgroup

Jon F. Carlson, Nadia Mazza, Jacques Thévenaz (2013)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Let G be a finite group with a Sylow 2-subgroup P which is either quaternion or semi-dihedral. Let k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic 2. We prove the existence of exotic endotrivial k G -modules, whose restrictions to P are isomorphic to the direct sum of the known exotic endotrivial k P -modules and some projective modules. This provides a description of the group T ( G ) of endotrivial k G -modules.

Entropy of Schur–Weyl measures

Sevak Mkrtchyan (2014)

Annales de l'I.H.P. Probabilités et statistiques

Relative dimensions of isotypic components of N th order tensor representations of the symmetric group on n letters give a Plancherel-type measure on the space of Young diagrams with n cells and at most N rows. It was conjectured by G. Olshanski that dimensions of isotypic components of tensor representations of finite symmetric groups, after appropriate normalization, converge to a constant with respect to this family of Plancherel-type measures in the limit when N n converges to a constant. The main...

Equivalent conditions for p-nilpotence

Keresztély Corrádi, Erzsébet Horváth (2000)

Discussiones Mathematicae - General Algebra and Applications

In the first part of this paper we prove without using the transfer or characters the equivalence of some conditions, each of which would imply p-nilpotence of a finite group G. The implication of p-nilpotence also can be deduced without the transfer or characters if the group is p-constrained. For p-constrained groups we also prove an equivalent condition so that O q ' ( G ) P should be p-nilpotent. We show an example that this result is not true for some non-p-constrained groups. In the second part of the...

Hassan Oukhaba, Gilles Robert (1991)

Journal de théorie des nombres de Bordeaux

We describe here two sets of generators of an ideal Δ ( ψ ) = M ( ψ ) , of finite index inside the square I 2 of the augmentation ideal I of [ G ] , associated to the Dirichlet character ψ of the finite group G . That peculiar ideal first appeared in questions related to the computation of class number formulas for abelian non ramified extensions of 𝒜 -fields cf. [2] and [3], satisfying certain special conditions which are outlined in the introduction of [1]. A rough idea of these formulas is given in §§2 and 6.

Eulerian idempotent and Kashiwara-Vergne conjecture

Emily Burgunder (2008)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

By using the interplay between the Eulerian idempotent and the Dynkin idempotent, we construct explicitly a particular symmetric solution ( F , G ) of the first equation of the Kashiwara-Vergne conjecture x + y - log ( e y e x ) = ( 1 - e - ad x ) F ( x , y ) + ( e ad y - 1 ) G ( x , y ) . Then, we explicit all the solutions of the equation in the completion of the free Lie algebra generated by two indeterminates x and y thanks to the kernel of the Dynkin idempotent.
