A way of estimating the convergence rate of the Fourier method for PDE of hyperbolic type

The Fourier expansion in eigenfunctions of a positive operator is studied with the help of abstract functions of this operator. The rate of convergence is estimated in terms of its eigenvalues, especially for uniform and absolute convergence. Some particular results are obtained for elliptic operators and hyperbolic equations.

Diffusion phenomenon for second order linear evolution equations

We present an abstract theory of the diffusion phenomenon for second order linear evolution equations in a Hilbert space. To derive the diffusion phenomenon, a new device developed in Ikehata-Matsuyama [5] is applied. Several applications to damped linear wave equations in unbounded domains are also given.

Using the Lyapunov-Perron method, we prove the existence of an inertial manifold for the process associated to a class of non-autonomous semilinear hyperbolic equations with finite delay, where the linear principal part is positive definite with a discrete spectrum having a sufficiently large distance between some two successive spectral points, and the Lipschitz coefficient of the nonlinear term may depend on time and belongs to some admissible function spaces.
