Local density of diffeomorphisms with large centralizers

Christian Bonatti, Sylvain Crovisier, Gioia M. Vago, Amie Wilkinson (2008)

Annales scientifiques de l'École Normale Supérieure

Given any compact manifold M , we construct a non-empty open subset 𝒪 of the space Diff 1 ( M ) of C 1 -diffeomorphisms and a dense subset 𝒟 𝒪 such that the centralizer of every diffeomorphism in 𝒟 is uncountable, hence non-trivial.

Non equivalence of NMS flows on S 3

B. Campos, P. Vindel (2012)

Mathematica Bohemica

We build the flows of non singular Morse-Smale systems on the 3-sphere from its round handle decomposition. We show the existence of flows corresponding to the same link of periodic orbits that are non equivalent. So, the link of periodic orbits is not in a 1-1 correspondence with this type of flows and we search for other topological invariants such as the associated dual graph.

Periods of Morse-Smale diffeomorphisms of 𝕊²

Juan Luis García Guirao, Jaume Llibre (2008)

Colloquium Mathematicae

The aim of this paper is to describe the set of periods of a Morse-Smale diffeomorphism of the two-dimensional sphere according to its homotopy class. The main tool for proving this is the Lefschetz fixed point theory.

Topological conjugacy of cascades generated by gradient flows on the two-dimensional sphere

Andrzej Bielecki (2000)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

This article presents a theorem about the topological conjugacy of a gradient dynamical system with a constant time step and the cascade generated by its Euler method. It is shown that on the two-dimensional sphere S² the gradient dynamical flow is, under some natural assumptions, correctly reproduced by the Euler method for a sufficiently small time step. This means that the time-map of the induced dynamical system is globally topologically conjugate to the discrete dynamical system obtained via...
