Nonuniform center bunching and the genericity of ergodicity among C 1 partially hyperbolic symplectomorphisms

Artur Avila, Jairo Bochi, Amie Wilkinson (2009)

Annales scientifiques de l'École Normale Supérieure

We introduce the notion of nonuniform center bunching for partially hyperbolic diffeomorphims, and extend previous results by Burns–Wilkinson and Avila–Santamaria–Viana. Combining this new technique with other constructions we prove that C 1 -generic partially hyperbolic symplectomorphisms are ergodic. We also construct new examples of stably ergodic partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms.

On cusps and flat tops

Neil Dobbs (2014)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

Non-invertible Pesin theory is developed for a class of piecewise smooth interval maps which may have unbounded derivative, but satisfy a property analogous to C 1 + ϵ . The critical points are not required to verify a non-flatness condition, so the results are applicable to C 1 + ϵ maps with flat critical points. If the critical points are too flat, then no absolutely continuous invariant probability measure can exist. This generalises a result of Benedicks and Misiurewicz.

On the continuity of Hausdorff dimension of Julia sets and similarity between the Mandelbrot set and Julia sets

Juan Rivera-Letelier (2001)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Given d ≥ 2 consider the family of polynomials P c ( z ) = z d + c for c ∈ ℂ. Denote by J c the Julia set of P c and let d = c | J c i s c o n n e c t e d be the connectedness locus; for d = 2 it is called the Mandelbrot set. We study semihyperbolic parameters c d : those for which the critical point 0 is not recurrent by P c and without parabolic cycles. The Hausdorff dimension of J c , denoted by H D ( J c ) , does not depend continuously on c at such c d ; on the other hand the function c H D ( J c ) is analytic in - d . Our first result asserts that there is still some continuity...

On the Hyperbolic Hausdorff Dimension of the Boundary of a Basin of Attraction for a Holomorphic Map and of Quasirepellers

Feliks Przytycki (2006)

Bulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Mathematics

e prove that the hyperbolic Hausdorff dimension of Fr Ω, the boundary of the simply connected immediate basin of attraction Ω to an attracting periodic point of a rational mapping of the Riemann sphere, which is not a finite Blaschke product in some holomorphic coordinates, or a 2:1 factor of a Blaschke product, is larger than 1. We prove a "local version" of this theorem, for a boundary repelling to the side of the domain. The results extend an analogous fact for polynomials...

Partial hyperbolicity and homoclinic tangencies

Sylvain Crovisier, Martin Sambarino, Dawei Yang (2015)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

We show that any diffeomorphism of a compact manifold can be C 1 approximated by diffeomorphisms exhibiting a homoclinic tangency or by diffeomorphisms having a partial hyperbolic structure.

Physical measures for infinite-modal maps

Vítor Araújo, Maria José Pacifico (2009)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

We analyze certain parametrized families of one-dimensional maps with infinitely many critical points from the measure-theoretical point of view. We prove that such families have absolutely continuous invariant probability measures for a positive Lebesgue measure subset of parameters. Moreover, we show that both the density of such a measure and its entropy vary continuously with the parameter. In addition, we obtain exponential rate of mixing for these measures and also show that they satisfy the...

Porcupine-like horseshoes: Transitivity, Lyapunov spectrum, and phase transitions

Lorenzo J. Díaz, Katrin Gelfert (2012)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

We study a partially hyperbolic and topologically transitive local diffeomorphism F that is a skew-product over a horseshoe map. This system is derived from a homoclinic class and contains infinitely many hyperbolic periodic points of different indices and hence is not hyperbolic. The associated transitive invariant set Λ possesses a very rich fiber structure, it contains uncountably many trivial and uncountably many non-trivial fibers. Moreover, the spectrum of the central Lyapunov exponents of...

Puzzles of Quasi-Finite Type, Zeta Functions and Symbolic Dynamics for Multi-Dimensional Maps

Jérôme Buzzi (2010)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

Entropy-expanding transformations define a class of smooth dynamics generalizing interval maps with positive entropy and expanding maps. In this work, we build a symbolic representation of those dynamics in terms of puzzles (in Yoccoz’s sense), thus avoiding a connectedness condition, hard to satisfy in higher dimensions. Those puzzles are controled by a «constraint entropy» bounded by the hypersurface entropy of the aforementioned transformations. The analysis of those puzzles rests on a «stably...

Return time statistics for unimodal maps

H. Bruin, S. Vaienti (2003)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

We prove that a non-flat S-unimodal map satisfying a weak summability condition has exponential return time statistics on intervals around a.e. point. Moreover we prove that the convergence to the entropy in the Ornstein-Weiss formula enjoys normal fluctuations.

Topological Pressure for One-Dimensional Holomorphic Dynamical Systems

Katrin Gelfert, Christian Wolf (2007)

Bulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Mathematics

For a class of one-dimensional holomorphic maps f of the Riemann sphere we prove that for a wide class of potentials φ the topological pressure is entirely determined by the values of φ on the repelling periodic points of f. This is a version of a classical result of Bowen for hyperbolic diffeomorphisms in the holomorphic non-uniformly hyperbolic setting.
