An Extension of 3D Zernike Moments for Shape Description and Retrieval of Maps Defined in Rectangular Solids

Atilla Sit, Julie C Mitchell, George N Phillips, Stephen J Wright (2013)

Molecular Based Mathematical Biology

Zernike polynomials have been widely used in the description and shape retrieval of 3D objects. These orthonormal polynomials allow for efficient description and reconstruction of objects that can be scaled to fit within the unit ball. However, maps defined within box-shaped regions ¶ for example, rectangular prisms or cubes ¶ are not well suited to representation by Zernike polynomials, because these functions are not orthogonal over such regions. In particular, the representations require many...

An extension of typically-real functions and associated orthogonal polynomials

Iwona Naraniecka, Jan Szynal, Anna Tatarczak (2011)

Annales UMCS, Mathematica

Two-parameters extension of the family of typically-real functions is studied. The definition is obtained by the Stjeltjes integral formula. The kernel function in this definition serves as a generating function for some family of orthogonal polynomials generalizing Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind. The results of this paper concern the exact region of local univalence, bounds for the radius of univalence, the coefficient problems within the considered family as well as the basic properties...

An intoduction to formal orthogonality and some of its applications.

Claude Brezinski (2002)

RACSAM

This paper is an introduction to formal orthogonal polynomials and their application to Padé approximation, Krylov subspace methods for the solution of systems of linear equations, and convergence acceleration methods. Some more general formal orthogonal polynomials, and the concept of biorthogonality and its applications are also discussed.

Analog of Favard's Theorem for Polynomials Connected with Difference Equation of 4-th Order

Zagorodniuk, S. (2001)

Serdica Mathematical Journal

Orthonormal polynomials on the real line {pn (λ)} n=0 ... ∞ satisfy the recurrent relation of the form: λn−1 pn−1 (λ) + αn pn (λ) + λn pn+1 (λ) = λpn (λ), n = 0, 1, 2, . . . , where λn > 0, αn ∈ R, n = 0, 1, . . . ; λ−1 = p−1 = 0, λ ∈ C. In this paper we study systems of polynomials {pn (λ)} n=0 ... ∞ which satisfy the equation: αn−2 pn−2 (λ) + βn−1 pn−1 (λ) + γn pn (λ) + βn pn+1 (λ) + αn pn+2 (λ) = λ2 pn (λ), n = 0, 1, 2, . . . , where αn > 0, βn ∈ C, γn ∈ R, n = 0, 1, 2, . . ., α−1 = α−2...

Analyses multi-résolutions non orthogonales, commutation entre projecteurs et derivation et ondelettes vecteurs à divergence nulle.

Pierre Gilles Lemarie-Rieusset (1992)

Revista Matemática Iberoamericana

The notion of non-orthogonal multi-resolution analysis and its compatibility with differentiation (as expressed by the commutation formula) lead us to the construction of a multi-resolution analysis of L2(Rn)n which is well adapted to the approximation of divergence-free vector functions. Thus, we obtain unconditional bases of compactly supported divergence-free vector wavelets.

Anisotropic Besov spaces and approximation numbers of traces on related fractal sets.

Erika Tamási (2006)

Revista Matemática Complutense

This paper deals with approximation numbers of the compact trace operator of an anisotropic Besov space into some Lp-space,trΓ: Bpps,a (Rn) → Lp(Γ), s > 0, 1 < p < ∞,where Γ is an anisotropic d-set, 0 < d < n. We also prove homogeneity estimates, a homogeneous equivalent norm and the localization property in Bpps,a.

Anisotropic classes of homogeneous pseudodifferential symbols

Árpád Bényi, Marcin Bownik (2010)

Studia Mathematica

We define homogeneous classes of x-dependent anisotropic symbols γ , δ m ( A ) in the framework determined by an expansive dilation A, thus extending the existing theory for diagonal dilations. We revisit anisotropic analogues of Hörmander-Mikhlin multipliers introduced by Rivière [Ark. Mat. 9 (1971)] and provide direct proofs of their boundedness on Lebesgue and Hardy spaces by making use of the well-established Calderón-Zygmund theory on spaces of homogeneous type. We then show that x-dependent symbols in...
