Calcul fonctionnel dépendant de la croissance des coefficients spectraux

T. H. Nguyen (1977)

Annales de l'institut Fourier

Soient a 1 , ...

A. Akkar, Abdellah El Kinani, M. Oudadess (1989)

Extracta Mathematicae

We show that the Banach algebras with continuous involution are the Banach algebras which admit a harmonic functional calculus, while we prove that the hermitian commutative Banach algebras are exactly the involutive commutative Banach algebras that admit a real analytic functional calculus.

Centralizers for subsets of normed algebras

Bertram Yood (2000)

Studia Mathematica

Let G be the set of invertible elements of a normed algebra A with an identity. For some but not all subsets H of G we have the following dichotomy. For x ∈ A either c x c - 1 = x for all c ∈ H or s u p c x c - 1 : c H = . In that case the set of x ∈ A for which the sup is finite is the centralizer of H.

Character contractibility of Banach algebras and homological properties of Banach modules

Rasoul Nasr-Isfahani, Sima Soltani Renani (2011)

Studia Mathematica

Let 𝓐 be a Banach algebra and let ϕ be a nonzero character on 𝓐. We give some necessary and sufficient conditions for the left ϕ-contractibility of 𝓐 as well as several hereditary properties. We also study relations between homological properties of some Banach left 𝓐-modules, the left ϕ-contractibility and the right ϕ-amenability of 𝓐. Finally, we characterize the left character contractibility of various Banach algebras related to locally compact groups.

Character pseudo-amenability of Banach algebras

Rasoul Nasr-Isfahani, Mehdi Nemati (2013)

Colloquium Mathematicae

Let 𝓐 be a Banach algebra and let ϕ be a nonzero character on 𝓐. We introduce and study a new notion of amenability for 𝓐 based on existence of a ϕ-approximate diagonal by modifying the concepts of ϕ-amenability and pseudo-amenability. We then apply these results to characterize ϕ-pseudo-amenability of various Banach algebras related to locally compact groups such as group algebras, measure algebras, certain dual algebras and Lebesgue-Fourier algebras.

Closed ideals in topological algebras: a characterization of the topological Φ -algebra C k ( X )

F. Montalvo, Antonio A. Pulgarín, Batildo Requejo Fernández (2006)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Let A be a uniformly closed and locally m-convex Φ -algebra. We obtain internal conditions on A stated in terms of its closed ideals for A to be isomorphic and homeomorphic to C k ( X ) , the Φ -algebra of all the real continuous functions on a normal topological space X endowed with the compact convergence topology.

Closed range multipliers and generalized inverses

K. Laursen, M. Mbekhta (1993)

Studia Mathematica

Conditions involving closed range of multipliers on general Banach algebras are studied. Numerous conditions equivalent to a splitting A = TA ⊕ kerT are listed, for a multiplier T defined on the Banach algebra A. For instance, it is shown that TA ⊕ kerT = A if and only if there is a commuting operator S for which T = TST and S = STS, that this is the case if and only if such S may be taken to be a multiplier, and that these conditions are also equivalent to the existence of a factorization T = PB,...

Commutativity criterions in locally m-convex algebras.

Aida Toma (2003)

Extracta Mathematicae

In this paper we define the notions of semicommutativity and semicommutativity modulo a linear subspace. We prove some results regarding the semicommutativity or semicommutativity modulo a linear subspace of a sequentially complete m-convex algebra. We show how such results can be applied in order to obtain commutativity criterions for locally m-convex algebras.

Commutators in Banach *-algebras

Bertram Yood (2008)

Studia Mathematica

The set of commutators in a Banach *-algebra A, with continuous involution, is examined. Applications are made to the case where A = B(ℓ₂), the algebra of all bounded linear operators on ℓ₂.
