P L representations of Anosov foliations

N. Hashiguchi (1992)

Annales de l'institut Fourier

By choosing certain Birkhoff’s section to the geodesic flow of a negatively curved closed surface, E. Ghys showed that the unstable foliation of the geodesic flow has a transversely piecewise linear structure. We explicitly describe the holonomy homomorphism induced by this transversely piecewise linear structure and calculate its discrete Godbillon-Vey invariant.

Parametrized h -cobordism theory

Allen E. Hatcher (1973)

Annales de l'institut Fourier

This paper gives an expository account of the author’s work on the “second” obstruction to deforming a pseudo-isotopy on a smooth compact manifold to an isotopy. Using earlier results on the “first” obstruction, due independently to J.B. Wagoner and the author, this completes the generalization of J. Cerf’s pseudo-isotopy theorem to the non-simply-connected case.

Parity biquandle

Aaron Kaestner, Louis H. Kauffman (2014)

Banach Center Publications

We use crossing parity to construct a generalization of biquandles for virtual knots which we call parity biquandles. These structures include all biquandles as a standard example referred to as the even parity biquandle. We find all parity biquandles arising from the Alexander biquandle and quaternionic biquandles. For a particular construction named the z-parity Alexander biquandle we show that the associated polynomial yields a lower bound on the number of odd crossings as well as the total number...

Perfect stratifications and theory of weights.

Vicente Navarro Aznar (1992)

Publicacions Matemàtiques

In this paper we emphasize Deligne's theory of weights, in order to prove that some stratifications of algebraic varieties are perfect. In particular, we study in some detail the Bialynicki-Birula's stratifications and the stratifications considered by F. Kirwan to compute the cohomology of symplectic or geometric quotients. Finally we also appoint the motivic formulation of this approach, which contains the Hodge theoretic formulation.
