Tree and local computations in a cross–entropy minimization problem with marginal constraints

Francesco M. Malvestuto (2010)

Kybernetika

In probability theory, Bayesian statistics, artificial intelligence and database theory the minimum cross-entropy principle is often used to estimate a distribution with a given set P of marginal distributions under the proportionality assumption with respect to a given “prior” distribution q . Such an estimation problem admits a solution if and only if there exists an extension of P that is dominated by q . In this paper we consider the case that q is not given explicitly, but is specified as the...

Tube-MPC for a class of uncertain continuous nonlinear systems with application to surge problem

Masoud Taleb Ziabari, Mohammad Reza Jahed-Motlagh, Karim Salahshoor, Amin Ramezani, Ali Moarefianpour (2017)

Kybernetika

This paper presents a new robust adaptive model predictive control for a special class of continuous-time non-linear systems with uncertainty. These systems have bounded disturbances with unknown upper bound, as well as constraints on input states. An adaptive control is used in the new controller to estimate the system uncertainty. Also, to avoid the system disturbances, a H method is employed to find the appropriate gain in Tube-MPC. Finally, a surge avoidance problem in centrifugal compressors...

Two implementations of the preconditioned conjugate gradient method on heterogeneous computing grids

Tijmen P. Collignon, Martin B. Van Gijzen (2010)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

Efficient iterative solution of large linear systems on grid computers is a complex problem. The induced heterogeneity and volatile nature of the aggregated computational resources present numerous algorithmic challenges. This paper describes a case study regarding iterative solution of large sparse linear systems on grid computers within the software constraints of the grid middleware GridSolve and within the algorithmic constraints of preconditioned Conjugate Gradient (CG) type methods. We identify...

Two observer-based tracking algorithms for a unicycle mobile robot

Janusz Jakubiak, Erjen Lefeber, Krzysztof Tchoń, Henk Nijmeijer (2002)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

A trajectory tracking problem for the three-dimensional kinematic model of a unicycle-type mobile robot is considered. It is assumed that only two of the tracking error coordinates are measurable. By means of cascaded systems theory we develop observers for each of the error coordinates and show the K-exponential convergence of the tracking error in combined closed-loop observer-controller systems. The results are illustrated with computer simulations.

Two-input control systems on the euclidean group  SE (2)

Ross M. Adams, Rory Biggs, Claudiu C. Remsing (2013)

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

Any two-input left-invariant control affine system of full rank, evolving on the Euclidean group SE (2), is (detached) feedback equivalent to one of three typical cases. In each case, we consider an optimal control problem which is then lifted, via the Pontryagin Maximum Principle, to a Hamiltonian system on the dual space 𝔰𝔢 (2)*. These reduced Hamilton − Poisson systems are the main topic of this paper. A qualitative analysis of each reduced system is performed. This analysis...

Two-level stochastic control for a linear system with nonclassical information

Zdzisław Duda, Witold Brandys (2004)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

A problem of control law design for large scale stochastic systems is discussed. Nonclassical information pattern is considered. A two-level hierarchical control structure with a coordinator on the upper level and local controllers on the lower level is proposed. A suboptimal algorithm with a partial decomposition of calculations and decentralized local control is obtained. A simple example is presented to illustrate the proposed approach.

Two-mode bifurcation in solution of a perturbed nonlinear fourth order differential equation

Ahmed Abbas Mizeal, Mudhir A. Abdul Hussain (2012)

Archivum Mathematicum

In this paper, we are interested in the study of bifurcation solutions of nonlinear wave equation of elastic beams located on elastic foundations with small perturbation by using local method of Lyapunov-Schmidt.We showed that the bifurcation equation corresponding to the elastic beams equation is given by the nonlinear system of two equations. Also, we found the parameters equation of the Discriminant set of the specified problem as well as the bifurcation diagram.

Two-point oscillatory solutions to system with relay hysteresis and nonperiodic external disturbance

Alexander M. Kamachkin, Dmitriy K. Potapov, Victoria V. Yevstafyeva (2024)

Applications of Mathematics

We study an n -dimensional system of ordinary differential equations with a constant matrix, a relay-type nonlinearity, and an external disturbance in the right-hand side. We consider a nonideal relay characteristic. The external disturbance is described by the product of an exponential function and a sine function with an initial phase as a parameter. We assume the matrix of the linear part and the vector at the relay characteristic such that, by a nonsingular transformation, the system is reduced...

Two-stage stochastic programming approach to a PDE-constrained steel production problem with the moving interface

Lubomír Klimeš, Pavel Popela, Tomáš Mauder, Josef Štětina, Pavel Charvát (2017)

Kybernetika

The paper is concerned with a parallel implementation of the progressive hedging algorithm (PHA) which is applicable for the solution of stochastic optimization problems. We utilized the Message Passing Interface (MPI) and the General Algebraic Modelling System (GAMS) to concurrently solve the scenario-related subproblems in parallel manner. The standalone application combining the PHA, MPI, and GAMS was programmed in C++. The created software was successfully applied to a steel production problem...
