This work considers a Bresse system with viscoelastic damping on the vertical displacement and heat conduction effect on the shear angle displacement. A general stability result with minimal condition on the relaxation function is obtained. The system under investigation, to the best of our knowledge, is new and has not been studied before in the literature. What is more interesting is the fact that our result holds without the imposition of the equal speed of wave propagation condition, and differentiation...
The goal of this paper is to establish a general homogenization result for linearized elasticity of an eigenvalue problem defined over perforated domains, beyond the periodic setting, within the framework of the -convergence theory. Our main homogenization result states that the knowledge of the fourth-order tensor , the -limit of , is sufficient to determine the homogenized eigenvalue problem and preserve the structure of the spectrum. This theorem is proved essentially by using Tartar’s method...
Si presenta un metodo di soluzione di una classe di problemi di diffusione nonlineare che hanno origine dalla teoria delle popolazioni con struttura di età.
We consider a parabolic equation which describes the gravitational interaction of particles. Existence of solutions and their convergence to stationary states are studied.
In this work, we consider singular perturbations of the boundary of a smooth domain. We describe the asymptotic behavior of the solution uE of a second order elliptic equation posed in the perturbed domain with respect to the size parameter ε of the deformation. We are also interested in the variations of the energy functional. We propose a numerical method for the approximation of uE based on a multiscale superposition of the unperturbed solution u0 and a profile defined in a model domain. We...
We study solutions to a nonlinear parabolic convection-diffusion equation on the half-line with the Neumann condition at x=0. The analysis is based on the properties of self-similar solutions to that problem.
We consider the wave equation damped with a locally distributed nonlinear dissipation. We improve several earlier results of E. Zuazua and of M. Nakao in two directions: first, using the piecewise multiplier method introduced by K. Liu, we weaken the usual geometrical conditions on the localization of the damping. Then thanks to some new nonlinear integral inequalities, we eliminate the usual assumption on the polynomial growth of the feedback in zero and we show that the energy of the system decays...
We consider the wave equation damped
with a boundary nonlinear velocity feedback p(u').
Under some geometrical conditions, we prove that the energy
of the system decays to zero with an explicit decay rate estimate
even if the function ρ has not a polynomial behavior in zero.
This work extends some results of Nakao, Haraux, Zuazua and Komornik, who studied the case where the feedback has a polynomial behavior in zero and completes a result of Lasiecka and Tataru. The proof is based on the construction...
