Local/global uniform approximation of real-valued continuous functions

Anthony W. Hager (2011)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

For a Tychonoff space X , C ( X ) is the lattice-ordered group ( l -group) of real-valued continuous functions on X , and C * ( X ) is the sub- l -group of bounded functions. A property that X might have is (AP) whenever G is a divisible sub- l -group of C * ( X ) , containing the constant function 1, and separating points from closed sets in X , then any function in C ( X ) can be approximated uniformly over X by functions which are locally in G . The vector lattice version of the Stone-Weierstrass Theorem is more-or-less equivalent...

Localic Katětov-Tong insertion theorem and localic Tietze extension theorem

Yong Min Li, Wang Guo-jun (1997)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

In this paper, localic upper, respectively lower continuous chains over a locale are defined. A localic Katětov-Tong insertion theorem is given and proved in terms of a localic upper and lower continuous chain. Finally, the localic Urysohn lemma and the localic Tietze extension theorem are shown as applications of the localic insertion theorem.

Locally functionally countable subalgebra of ( L )

M. Elyasi, A. A. Estaji, M. Robat Sarpoushi (2020)

Archivum Mathematicum

Let L c ( X ) = { f C ( X ) : C f ¯ = X } , where C f is the union of all open subsets U X such that | f ( U ) | 0 . In this paper, we present a pointfree topology version of L c ( X ) , named c ( L ) . We observe that c ( L ) enjoys most of the important properties shared by ( L ) and c ( L ) , where c ( L ) is the pointfree version of all continuous functions of C ( X ) with countable image. The interrelation between ( L ) , c ( L ) , and c ( L ) is examined. We show that L c ( X ) c ( 𝔒 ( X ) ) for any space X . Frames L for which c ( L ) = ( L ) are characterized.

Maximal pseudocompact spaces

Jack R. Porter, Robert M., Jr. Stephenson, Grant R. Woods (1994)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Maximal pseudocompact spaces (i.e. pseudocompact spaces possessing no strictly stronger pseudocompact topology) are characterized. It is shown that submaximal pseudocompact spaces whose pseudocompact subspaces are closed need not be maximal pseudocompact. Various techniques for constructing maximal pseudocompact spaces are described. Maximal pseudocompactness is compared to maximal feeble compactness.

New proofs of classical insertion theorems

Chris Good, Ian Stares (2000)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

We provide new proofs for the classical insertion theorems of Dowker and Michael. The proofs are geometric in nature and highlight the connection with the preservation of normality in products. Both proofs follow directly from the Katětov-Tong insertion theorem and we also discuss a proof of this.

Normal integrands and related classes of functions

Anna Kucia, Andrzej Nowak (1995)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Let D T × X , where T is a measurable space, and X a topological space. We study inclusions between three classes of extended real-valued functions on D which are upper semicontinuous in x and satisfy some measurability conditions.

Note on dense covers in the category of locales

Jan Paseka (1994)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

In this note we are going to study dense covers in the category of locales. We shall show that any product of finitely regular locales with some dense covering property has this property as well.

On a question of C c ( X )

A. R. Olfati (2016)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

In this short article we answer the question posed in Ghadermazi M., Karamzadeh O.A.S., Namdari M., On the functionally countable subalgebra of C ( X ) , Rend. Sem. Mat. Univ. Padova 129 (2013), 47–69. It is shown that C c ( X ) is isomorphic to some ring of continuous functions if and only if υ 0 X is functionally countable. For a strongly zero-dimensional space X , this is equivalent to say that X is functionally countable. Hence for every P -space it is equivalent to pseudo- 0 -compactness.

On a shadowing lemma in metric spaces

Tibor Žáčik (1992)

Mathematica Bohemica

In the present paper conditions are studied, under which a pseudo-orbit of a continuous map f : M M , where M is a metric space, is shadowed, in a more general sense, by an accurate orbit of the map f .

On almost quasicontinuity

Anna Neubrunnová, Tibor Šalát (1992)

Mathematica Bohemica

The concept of almost quasicontinuity is investgated in this paper in several directions (e.g. the relation of this concept to other generalizations of continuity is described, various types of convergence of sequences of almost quasicontinuous function are studied, a.s.o.).
