Towards the Jacquet conjecture on the Local Converse Problem for p -adic GL n

Dihua Jiang, Chufeng Nien, Shaun Stevens (2015)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

The Local Converse Problem is to determine how the family of the local gamma factors γ ( s , π × τ , ψ ) characterizes the isomorphism class of an irreducible admissible generic representation π of GL n ( F ) , with F a non-archimedean local field, where τ runs through all irreducible supercuspidal representations of GL r ( F ) and r runs through positive integers. The Jacquet conjecture asserts that it is enough to take r = 1 , 2 , ... , n 2 . Based on arguments in the work of Henniart and of Chen giving preliminary steps towards the Jacquet...

Finite groups with two rows which differ in only one entry in character tables

Wenyang Wang, Ni Du (2021)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

Let G be a finite group. If G has two rows which differ in only one entry in the character table, we call G an RD1-group. We investigate the character tables of RD1-groups and get some necessary and sufficient conditions about RD1-groups.

Asymptotic values of modular multiplicities for GL 2

Sandra Rozensztajn (2014)

Journal de Théorie des Nombres de Bordeaux

Similarity:

We study the irreducible constituents of the reduction modulo p of irreducible algebraic representations V of the group Res K / p GL 2 for K a finite extension of p . We show that asymptotically, the multiplicity of each constituent depends only on the dimension of V and the central character of its reduction modulo p . As an application, we compute the asymptotic value of multiplicities that are the object of the Breuil-Mézard conjecture.

Locally analytic vectors of unitary principal series of  GL 2 ( p )

Ruochuan Liu, Bingyong Xie, Yuancao Zhang (2012)

Annales scientifiques de l'École Normale Supérieure

Similarity:

The p -adic local Langlands correspondence for  GL 2 ( p ) attaches to any 2 -dimensional irreducible p -adic representation V of  G p an admissible unitary representation Π ( V ) of  GL 2 ( p ) . The unitary principal series of  GL 2 ( p ) are those Π ( V ) corresponding to trianguline representations. In this article, for  p > 2 , using the machinery of Colmez, we determine the space of locally analytic vectors Π ( V ) an for all non-exceptional unitary principal series Π ( V ) of  GL 2 ( p ) by proving a conjecture of Emerton.

Irreducibility of automorphic Galois representations of G L ( n ) , n at most 5

Frank Calegari, Toby Gee (2013)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

Similarity:

Let π be a regular, algebraic, essentially self-dual cuspidal automorphic representation of GL n ( 𝔸 F ) , where F is a totally real field and n is at most 5 . We show that for all primes l , the l -adic Galois representations associated to π are irreducible, and for all but finitely many primes l , the mod l Galois representations associated to π are also irreducible. We also show that the Lie algebras of the Zariski closures of the l -adic representations are independent of l .

Let E be a CM number field, p an odd prime totally split in  E , and let  X be the p -adic analytic space parameterizing the isomorphism classes of  3 -dimensional semisimple p -adic representations of  Gal ( E ¯ / E ) satisfying a selfduality condition “of type U ( 3 ) ”. We study an analogue of the infinite fern of Gouvêa-Mazur in this context and show that each irreducible component of the Zariski-closure of the modular points in  X has dimension at least 3 [ E : ] . As important steps, and in any rank, we prove that any...

Quiver varieties and the character ring of general linear groups over finite fields

Emmanuel Letellier (2013)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

Given a tuple ( 𝒳 1 , ... , 𝒳 k ) of irreducible characters of G L n ( F q ) we define a star-shaped quiver Γ together with a dimension vector v . Assume that ( 𝒳 1 , ... , 𝒳 k ) is generic. Our first result is a formula which expresses the multiplicity of the trivial character in the tensor product 𝒳 1 𝒳 k as the trace of the action of some Weyl group on the intersection cohomology of some (non-affine) quiver varieties associated to ( Γ , v ) . The existence of such a quiver variety is subject to some condition. Assuming that this condition is satisfied,...

Recognition of characteristically simple group A 5 × A 5 by character degree graph and order

Maryam Khademi, Behrooz Khosravi (2018)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

The character degree graph of a finite group G is the graph whose vertices are the prime divisors of the irreducible character degrees of G and two vertices p and q are joined by an edge if p q divides some irreducible character degree of G . It is proved that some simple groups are uniquely determined by their orders and their character degree graphs. But since the character degree graphs of the characteristically simple groups are complete, there are very narrow class of characteristically...

A class of irreducible polynomials

Let f ( x ) = x + k n - 1 x n - 1 + k n - 2 x n - 2 + + k x + k [ x ] , where 3 k n - 1 k n - 2 k k 2 k n - 1 - 3 . We show that f(x) and f(x²) are irreducible over ℚ. Moreover, the upper bound of 2 k n - 1 - 3 on the coefficients of f(x) is the best possible in this situation.

On the irreducible factors of a polynomial over a valued field

Anuj Jakhar (2024)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

We explicitly provide numbers d , e such that each irreducible factor of a polynomial f ( x ) with integer coefficients has a degree greater than or equal to d and f ( x ) can have at most e irreducible factors over the field of rational numbers. Moreover, we prove our result in a more general setup for polynomials with coefficients from the valuation ring of an arbitrary valued field.

Generalized symmetry classes of tensors

Similarity:

Let V be a unitary space. For an arbitrary subgroup G of the full symmetric group S m and an arbitrary irreducible unitary representation Λ of G , we study the generalized symmetry class of tensors over V associated with G and Λ . Some important properties of this vector space are investigated.

Stacks of group representations

Paul Balmer (2015)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

We start with a small paradigm shift about group representations, namely the observation that restriction to a subgroup can be understood as an extension-of-scalars. We deduce that, given a group G , the derived and the stable categories of representations of a subgroup H can be constructed out of the corresponding category for G by a purely triangulated-categorical construction, analogous to étale extension in algebraic geometry. In the case of finite groups, we then use descent methods...

Let k be a p -adic field. Let G be the group of k -rational points of a connected reductive group 𝖦 defined over k , and let 𝔤 be its Lie algebra. Under certain hypotheses on 𝖦 and k , wethe tempered dual G ^ of G via the Plancherel formula on 𝔤 , using some character expansions. This involves matching spectral decomposition factors of the Plancherel formulas on 𝔤 and G . As a consequence, we prove that any tempered representation contains a good minimal 𝖪 -type; we extend this result to irreducible...

Let G be a finite group and write cd ( G ) for the degree set of the complex irreducible characters of G . The group G is said to satisfy the two-prime hypothesis if for any distinct degrees a , b cd ( G ) , the total number of (not necessarily different) primes of the greatest common divisor gcd ( a , b ) is at most 2 . We prove an upper bound on the number of irreducible character degrees of a nonsolvable group that has a composition factor isomorphic to PSL 2 ( q ) for q 7 .

For a complex character χ of a finite group G , it is known that the product sh ( χ ) = l L ( χ ) ( χ ( 1 ) - l ) is a multiple of | G | , where L ( χ ) is the image of χ on G - { 1 } . The character χ is said to be a sharp character of type L if L = L ( χ ) and sh ( χ ) = | G | . If the principal character of G is not an irreducible constituent of χ , then the character χ is called normalized. It is proposed as a problem by P. J. Cameron and M. Kiyota, to find finite groups G with normalized sharp characters of type { - 1 , 0 , 2 } . Here we prove that such a group with nontrivial...

Proof of a conjectured three-valued family of Weil sums of binomials

We consider Weil sums of binomials of the form W F , d ( a ) = x F ψ ( x d - a x ) , where F is a finite field, ψ: F → ℂ is the canonical additive character, g c d ( d , | F × | ) = 1 , and a F × . If we fix F and d, and examine the values of W F , d ( a ) as a runs through F × , we always obtain at least three distinct values unless d is degenerate (a power of the characteristic of F modulo | F × | ). Choices of F and d for which we obtain only three values are quite rare and desirable in a wide variety of applications. We show that if F is a field of order 3ⁿ with n...
