Homology computations for complex braid groups

Filippo Callegaro, Ivan Marin (2014)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Complex braid groups are the natural generalizations of braid groups associated to arbitrary (finite) complex reflection groups. We investigate several methods for computing the homology of these groups. In particular, we get the Poincaré polynomial with coefficients in a finite field for one large series of such groups, and compute the second integral cohomology group for all of them. As a consequence we get non-isomorphism results for these groups.

Homology of braid groups and their generalizations

Vladimir Vershinin (1998)

Banach Center Publications

In the paper we give a survey of (co)homologies of braid groups and groups connected with them. Among these groups are pure braid groups and generalized braid groups. We present explicit formulations of some theorems of V. I. Arnold, E. Brieskorn, D. B. Fuks, F. Cohen, V. V. Goryunov and others. The ideas of some proofs are outlined. As an application of (co)homologies of braid groups we study the Thom spectra of these groups.

Hyperbolic geometry and moduli of real cubic surfaces

Daniel Allcock, James A. Carlson, Domingo Toledo (2010)

Annales scientifiques de l'École Normale Supérieure

Let 0 be the moduli space of smooth real cubic surfaces. We show that each of its components admits a real hyperbolic structure. More precisely, one can remove some lower-dimensional geodesic subspaces from a real hyperbolic space H 4 and form the quotient by an arithmetic group to obtain an orbifold isomorphic to a component of the moduli space. There are five components. For each we describe the corresponding lattices in PO ( 4 , 1 ) . We also derive several new and several old results on the topology of 0 ....

Invariants of finite groups generated by generalized transvections in the modular case

Xiang Han, Jizhu Nan, Chander K. Gupta (2017)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

We investigate the invariant rings of two classes of finite groups G GL ( n , F q ) which are generated by a number of generalized transvections with an invariant subspace H over a finite field F q in the modular case. We name these groups generalized transvection groups. One class is concerned with a given invariant subspace which involves roots of unity. Constructing quotient groups and tensors, we deduce the invariant rings and study their Cohen-Macaulay and Gorenstein properties. The other is concerned with...

Kazhdan–Lusztig basis and a geometric filtration of an affine Hecke algebra, II

Nanhua Xi (2011)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

An affine Hecke algebras can be realized as an equivariant K -group of the corresponding Steinberg variety. This gives rise naturally to some two-sided ideals of the affine Hecke algebra by means of the closures of nilpotent orbits of the corresponding Lie algebra. In this paper we will show that the two-sided ideals are in fact the two-sided ideals of the affine Hecke algebra defined through two-sided cells of the corresponding affine Weyl group after the two-sided ideals are tensored by . This...

L²-homology and reciprocity for right-angled Coxeter groups

Boris Okun, Richard Scott (2011)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Let W be a Coxeter group and let μ be an inner product on the group algebra ℝW. We say that μ is admissible if it satisfies the axioms for a Hilbert algebra structure. Any such inner product gives rise to a von Neumann algebra μ containing ℝW. Using these algebras and the corresponding von Neumann dimensions we define L ² μ -Betti numbers and an L ² μ -Euler charactersitic for W. We show that if the Davis complex for W is a generalized homology manifold, then these Betti numbers satisfy a version of Poincaré...
