On a conjecture of Kottwitz and Rapoport

Qëndrim R. Gashi (2010)

Annales scientifiques de l'École Normale Supérieure

We prove a conjecture of Kottwitz and Rapoport which implies a converse to Mazur’s Inequality for all (connected) split and quasi-split unramified reductive groups. Our results are related to the non-emptiness of certain affine Deligne-Lusztig varieties.

On a cubic Hecke algebra associated with the quantum group U q ( 2 )

Janusz Wysoczański (2010)

Banach Center Publications

We define an operator α on ℂ³ ⊗ ℂ³ associated with the quantum group U q ( 2 ) , which satisfies the Yang-Baxter equation and a cubic equation (α² - 1)(α + q²) = 0. This operator can be extended to a family of operators h j : = I j α I n - 2 - j on ( ³ ) n with 0 ≤ j ≤ n - 2. These operators generate the cubic Hecke algebra q , n ( 2 ) associated with the quantum group U q ( 2 ) . The purpose of this note is to present the construction.

On Balancing and Lucas-balancing Quaternions

Bijan Kumar Patel, Prasanta Kumar Ray (2021)

Communications in Mathematics

The aim of this article is to investigate two new classes of quaternions, namely, balancing and Lucas-balancing quaternions that are based on balancing and Lucas-balancing numbers, respectively. Further, some identities including Binet's formulas, summation formulas, Catalan's identity, etc. concerning these quaternions are also established.

On classical invariant theory and binary cubics

Gerald W. Schwarz (1987)

Annales de l'institut Fourier

Let G be a reductive complex algebraic group, and let C [ m V ] G denote the algebra of invariant polynomial functions on the direct sum of m copies of the representations space V of G . There is a smallest integer n = n ( V ) such that generators and relations of C [ m V ] G can be obtained from those of C [ n V ] G by polarization and restitution for all m > n . We bound and the degrees of generators and relations of C [ n V ] G , extending results of Vust. We apply our techniques to compute the invariant theory of binary cubics.

On complete orbit spaces of SL(2) actions, II

Andrzej Białynicki-Birula, Joanna Święcicka (1992)

Colloquium Mathematicae

The aim of this paper is to extend the results of [BB-Ś2] concerning geometric quotients of actions of SL(2) to the case of good quotients. Thus the results of the present paper can be applied to any action of SL(2) on a complete smooth algebraic variety, while the theorems proved in [BB-Ś2] concerned only special situations.
