Packing spectra for Bernoulli measures supported on Bedford-McMullen carpets

Thomas Jordan, Michał Rams (2015)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

We consider the packing spectra for the local dimension of Bernoulli measures supported on Bedford-McMullen carpets. We show that typically the packing dimension of the regular set is smaller than the packing dimension of the attractor. We also consider a specific class of measures for which we are able to calculate the packing spectrum exactly, and we show that the packing spectrum is discontinuous as a function on the space of Bernoulli measures.

Parabolic Cantor sets

Mariusz Urbański (1996)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

The notion of a parabolic Cantor set is introduced allowing in the definition of hyperbolic Cantor sets some fixed points to have derivatives of modulus one. Such difference in the assumptions is reflected in geometric properties of these Cantor sets. It turns out that if the Hausdorff dimension of this set is denoted by h, then its h-dimensional Hausdorff measure vanishes but the h-dimensional packing measure is positive and finite. This latter measure can also be dynamically characterized as the...

Parapuzzle of the multibrot set and typical dynamics of unimodal maps

Artur Avila, Mikhail Lyubich, Weixiao Shen (2011)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

We study the parameter space of unicritical polynomials f c : z z d + c . For complex parameters, we prove that for Lebesgue almost every c , the map f c is either hyperbolic or infinitely renormalizable. For real parameters, we prove that for Lebesgue almost every c , the map f c is either hyperbolic, or Collet–Eckmann, or infinitely renormalizable. These results are based on controlling the spacing between consecutive elements in the “principal nest” of parapuzzle pieces.

Partial hyperbolicity and homoclinic tangencies

Sylvain Crovisier, Martin Sambarino, Dawei Yang (2015)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

We show that any diffeomorphism of a compact manifold can be C 1 approximated by diffeomorphisms exhibiting a homoclinic tangency or by diffeomorphisms having a partial hyperbolic structure.

Partial variational principle for finitely generated groups of polynomial growth and some foliated spaces

Andrzej Biś (2008)

Colloquium Mathematicae

We generalize the notion of topological pressure to the case of a finitely generated group of continuous maps and introduce group measure entropy. Also, we provide an elementary proof that any finitely generated group of polynomial growth admits a group invariant measure and show that for a group of polynomial growth its measure entropy is less than or equal to its topological entropy. The dynamical properties of groups of polynomial growth are reflected in the dynamics of some foliated spaces.

Periodic billiard orbits in right triangles

Serge Troubetzkoy (2005)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

There is an open set of right triangles such that for each irrational triangle in this set (i) periodic billiards orbits are dense in the phase space, (ii) there is a unique nonsingular perpendicular billiard orbit which is not periodic, and (iii) the perpendicular periodic orbits fill the corresponding invariant surface.

Periodic orbits and chain-transitive sets of C1-diffeomorphisms

Sylvain Crovisier (2006)

Publications Mathématiques de l'IHÉS

We prove that the chain-transitive sets of C1-generic diffeomorphisms are approximated in the Hausdorff topology by periodic orbits. This implies that the homoclinic classes are dense among the chain-recurrence classes. This result is a consequence of a global connecting lemma, which allows to build by a C1-perturbation an orbit connecting several prescribed points. One deduces a weak shadowing property satisfied by C1-generic diffeomorphisms: any pseudo-orbit is approximated in the Hausdorff topology...

Periodic segments and Nielsen numbers

Klaudiusz Wójcik (1999)

Banach Center Publications

We prove that the Poincaré map φ ( 0 , T ) has at least N ( h ˜ , c l ( W 0 W 0 - ) ) fixed points (whose trajectories are contained inside the segment W) where the homeomorphism h ˜ is given by the segment W.

Periodicity of β-expansions for certain Pisot units*

Sandra Vaz, Pedro Martins Rodrigues (2012)

ESAIM: Proceedings

Given β > 1, let Tβ T β : [ 0 , 1 [ [ 0 , 1 [ x βx βx . The iteration of this transformation gives rise to the greedy β-expansion. There has been extensive research on the properties of this expansion and its dependence on the parameter β.In [17], K. Schmidt analyzed the set of periodic points of Tβ, where β is a Pisot number. In an attempt to generalize some of his results, we study, for certain Pisot units, a different expansion that we call linear expansion x = i 0 e i β i , where each ei...
