Large deviations for independent random variables – Application to Erdös-Renyi’s functional law of large numbers

Jamal Najim (2005)

ESAIM: Probability and Statistics

A Large Deviation Principle (LDP) is proved for the family 1 n 1 n 𝐟 ( x i n ) · Z i n where the deterministic probability measure 1 n 1 n δ x i n converges weakly to a probability measure R and ( Z i n ) i are d -valued independent random variables whose distribution depends on x i n and satisfies the following exponential moments condition: sup i , n 𝔼 e α * | Z i n | < + forsome 0 < α * < + . In this context, the identification of the rate function is non-trivial due to the absence of equidistribution. We rely on fine convex analysis to address this issue. Among the applications of this result, we extend...

Large structures made of nowhere L q functions

Szymon Głąb, Pedro L. Kaufmann, Leonardo Pellegrini (2014)

Studia Mathematica

We say that a real-valued function f defined on a positive Borel measure space (X,μ) is nowhere q-integrable if, for each nonvoid open subset U of X, the restriction f | U is not in L q ( U ) . When (X,μ) has some natural properties, we show that certain sets of functions defined in X which are p-integrable for some p’s but nowhere q-integrable for some other q’s (0 < p,q < ∞) admit a variety of large linear and algebraic structures within them. The presented results answer a question of Bernal-González,...

Large-scale isoperimetry on locally compact groups and applications

Romain Tessera (2006/2007)

Séminaire de théorie spectrale et géométrie

We introduce various notions of large-scale isoperimetric profile on a locally compact, compactly generated amenable group. These asymptotic quantities provide measurements of the degree of amenability of the group. We are particularly interested in a class of groups with exponential volume growth which are the most amenable possible in that sense. We show that these groups share various interesting properties such as the speed of on-diagonal decay of random walks, the vanishing of the reduced first...

Lebesgue measure and mappings of the Sobolev class W 1 , n

O. Martio (1995)

Banach Center Publications

We present a survey of the Lusin condition (N) for W 1 , n -Sobolev mappings f : G n defined in a domain G of n . Applications to the boundary behavior of conformal mappings are discussed.

Lebesgue points for Sobolev functions on metric spaces.

Juha Kinnunen, Visa Latvala (2002)

Revista Matemática Iberoamericana

Our main objective is to study the pointwise behaviour of Sobolev functions on a metric measure space. We prove that a Sobolev function has Lebesgue points outside a set of capacity zero if the measure is doubling. This result seems to be new even for the weighted Sobolev spaces on Euclidean spaces. The crucial ingredient of our argument is a maximal function related to discrete convolution approximations. In particular, we do not use the Besicovitch covering theorem, extension theorems or representation...
