On a Question of Pełczyński about Strictly Singular Operators

Jesús M. F. Castillo, Marilda Simoes, Jesús Suárez de la Fuente (2012)

Bulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Mathematics

We exhibit new examples of weakly compact strictly singular operators with dual not strictly cosingular and characterize the weakly compact strictly singular surjections with strictly cosingular adjoint as those having strictly singular bitranspose. We then obtain new examples of super-strictly singular quotient maps and show that the strictly singular quotient maps in Kalton-Peck sequences are not super-strictly singular.

On certain subsets of Bochner integrable function spaces.

Fernando Bombal (1991)

Extracta Mathematicae

One of the most important methods used in literature to introduce new properties in a Banach space E, consists in establishing some non trivial relationships between different classes of subsets of E. For instance, E is reflexive, or has finite dimension, if and only if every bounded subset is weakly relatively compact or norm relatively compact, respectively. On the other hand, Banach spaces of the type C(K) and Lp(μ) play a vital role in the general theory of Banach spaces. Their structure is so...

On the class of order Dunford-Pettis operators

Khalid Bouras, Abdelmonaim El Kaddouri, Jawad H'michane, Mohammed Moussa (2013)

Mathematica Bohemica

We characterize Banach lattices E and F on which the adjoint of each operator from E into F which is order Dunford-Pettis and weak Dunford-Pettis, is Dunford-Pettis. More precisely, we show that if E and F are two Banach lattices then each order Dunford-Pettis and weak Dunford-Pettis operator T from E into F has an adjoint Dunford-Pettis operator T ' from F ' into E ' if, and only if, the norm of E ' is order continuous or F ' has the Schur property. As a consequence we show that, if E and F are two Banach...

On the range of some elementary operators

Hamza El Mouadine, Abdelkhalek Faouzi, Youssef Bouhafsi (2024)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Let L ( H ) denote the algebra of all bounded linear operators on a complex infinite dimensional Hilbert space H . For A , B L ( H ) , the generalized derivation δ A , B and the multiplication operator M A , B are defined on L ( H ) by δ A , B ( X ) = A X - X B and M A , B ( X ) = A X B . In this paper, we give a characterization of bounded operators A and B such that the range of M A , B is closed. We present some sufficient conditions for δ A , B to have closed range. Some related results are also given.

On uniformly smoothing stochastic operators

Wojciech Bartoszek (1995)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

We show that a stochastic operator acting on the Banach lattice L 1 ( m ) of all m -integrable functions on ( X , 𝒜 ) is quasi-compact if and only if it is uniformly smoothing (see the definition below).

On λ-commuting operators

John B. Conway, Gabriel Prǎjiturǎ (2005)

Studia Mathematica

For a scalar λ, two operators T and S are said to λ-commute if TS = λST. In this note we explore the pervasiveness of the operators that λ-commute with a compact operator by characterizing the closure and the interior of the set of operators with this property.
