We show that a B-space E has the (CRP) if and only if any dominated operator T from C[0, 1] into E is compact. Hence we apply this result to prove that c0 embeds isomorphically into the B-space of all compact operators from C[0, 1] into an arbitrary B-space E without the (CRP).

Let (Ω,Σ,μ) be a finite measure space and let X be a real Banach space. Let L Φ ( X ) be the Orlicz-Bochner space defined by a Young function Φ. We study the relationships between Dunford-Pettis operators T from L¹(X) to a Banach space Y and the compactness properties of the operators T restricted to L Φ ( X ) . In particular, it is shown that if X is a reflexive Banach space, then a bounded linear operator T:L¹(X) → Y is Dunford-Pettis if and only if T restricted to L ( X ) is ( τ ( L ( X ) , L ¹ ( X * ) ) , | | · | | Y ) -compact.

Explicit representation of compact linear operators in Banach spaces via polar sets

We consider a compact linear map T acting between Banach spaces both of which are uniformly convex and uniformly smooth; it is supposed that T has trivial kernel and range dense in the target space. It is shown that if the Gelfand numbers of T decay sufficiently quickly, then the action of T is given by a series with calculable coefficients. This provides a Banach space version of the well-known Hilbert space result of E. Schmidt.

Factorization and domination of positive Banach-Saks operators

It is proved that every positive Banach-Saks operator T: E → F between Banach lattices E and F factors through a Banach lattice with the Banach-Saks property, provided that F has order continuous norm. By means of an example we show that this order continuity condition cannot be removed. In addition, some domination results, in the Dodds-Fremlin sense, are obtained for the class of Banach-Saks operators.

Factorization of Montel operators

Consider the following conditions. (a) Every regular LB-space is complete; (b) if an operator T between complete LB-spaces maps bounded sets into relatively compact sets, then T factorizes through a Montel LB-space; (c) for every complete LB-space E the space C (βℕ, E) is bornological. We show that (a) ⇒ (b) ⇒ (c). Moreover, we show that if E is Montel, then (c) holds. An example of an LB-space E with a strictly increasing transfinite sequence of its Mackey derivatives is given.

Let X be a Banach space and ν a countably additive X-valued measure defined on a σ-algebra. We discuss some generation properties of the Banach space L¹(ν) and its connection with uniform Eberlein compacta. In this way, we provide a new proof that L¹(ν) is weakly compactly generated and embeds isomorphically into a Hilbert generated Banach space. We study the position of compact operators in the space of all continuous linear operators and its subspaces in terms of ideals. One of our main results states that for Banach spaces X and Y the subspace of all compact operators 𝒦 ( X , Y ) is an M ( r 1 r 2 , s 1 s 2 ) -ideal in the space of all continuous linear operators ( X , Y ) whenever 𝒦 ( X , X ) and 𝒦 ( Y , Y ) are M ( r 1 , s 1 ) - and M ( r 2 , s 2 ) -ideals in ( X , X ) and ( Y , Y ) , respectively, with r 1 + s 1 / 2 > 1 and r 2 + s 2 / 2 > 1 . Mean ergodicity for compact operators
