The area preserving curve shortening flow with Neumann free boundary conditions

Elena Mäder-Baumdicker (2015)

Geometric Flows

We study the area preserving curve shortening flow with Neumann free boundary conditions outside of a convex domain in the Euclidean plane. Under certain conditions on the initial curve the flow does not develop any singularity, and it subconverges smoothly to an arc of a circle sitting outside of the given fixed domain and enclosing the same area as the initial curve.

The Calabi functional on a ruled surface

Gábor Székelyhidi (2009)

Annales scientifiques de l'École Normale Supérieure

We study the Calabi functional on a ruled surface over a genus two curve. For polarizations which do not admit an extremal metric we describe the behavior of a minimizing sequence splitting the manifold into pieces. We also show that the Calabi flow starting from a metric with suitable symmetry gives such a minimizing sequence.

The CUDA implementation of the method of lines for the curvature dependent flows

Tomáš Oberhuber, Atsushi Suzuki, Vítězslav Žabka (2011)

Kybernetika

We study the use of a GPU for the numerical approximation of the curvature dependent flows of graphs - the mean-curvature flow and the Willmore flow. Both problems are often applied in image processing where fast solvers are required. We approximate these problems using the complementary finite volume method combined with the method of lines. We obtain a system of ordinary differential equations which we solve by the Runge-Kutta-Merson solver. It is a robust solver with an automatic choice of the...

The Geometry of Differential Harnack Estimates

Sebastian Helmensdorfer, Peter Topping (2011/2012)

Séminaire de théorie spectrale et géométrie

In this short note, we hope to give a rapid induction for non-experts into the world of Differential Harnack inequalities, which have been so influential in geometric analysis and probability theory over the past few decades. At the coarsest level, these are often mysterious-looking inequalities that hold for ‘positive’ solutions of some parabolic PDE, and can be verified quickly by grinding out a computation and applying a maximum principle. In this note we emphasise the geometry behind the Harnack...

The inverse mean curvature flow and p -harmonic functions

Roger Moser (2007)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

We consider the level set formulation of the inverse mean curvature flow. We establish a connection to the problem of p -harmonic functions and give a new proof for the existence of weak solutions.

The Kähler Ricci flow on Fano manifolds (I)

Xiuxiong Chen, Bing Wang (2012)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

We study the evolution of pluri-anticanonical line bundles K M - ν along the Kähler Ricci flow on a Fano manifold M . Under some special conditions, we show that the convergence of this flow is determined by the properties of the pluri-anticanonical divisors of M . For example, the Kähler Ricci flow on M converges when M is a Fano surface satisfying c 1 2 ( M ) = 1 or c 1 2 ( M ) = 3 . Combined with the works in [CW1] and [CW2], this gives a Ricci flow proof of the Calabi conjecture on Fano surfaces with reductive automorphism groups....

Travelling graphs for the forced mean curvature motion in an arbitrary space dimension

Régis Monneau, Jean-Michel Roquejoffre, Violaine Roussier-Michon (2013)

Annales scientifiques de l'École Normale Supérieure

We construct travelling wave graphs of the form z = - c t + φ ( x ) , φ : x N - 1 φ ( x ) , N 2 , solutions to the N -dimensional forced mean curvature motion V n = - c 0 + κ ( c c 0 ) with prescribed asymptotics. For any 1 -homogeneous function φ , viscosity solution to the eikonal equation | D φ | = ( c / c 0 ) 2 - 1 , we exhibit a smooth concave solution to the forced mean curvature motion whose asymptotics is driven by  φ . We also describe φ in terms of a probability measure on  § N - 2 .
