A Corson compact L-space from a Suslin tree

Peter Nyikos (2015)

Colloquium Mathematicae

The completion of a Suslin tree is shown to be a consistent example of a Corson compact L-space when endowed with the coarse wedge topology. The example has the further properties of being zero-dimensional and monotonically normal.

A generalization of a generic theorem in the theory of cardinal invariants of topological spaces

Alejandro Ramírez-Páramo, Noé Trinidad Tapia-Bonilla (2007)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

The main goal of this paper is to establish a technical result, which provides an algorithm to prove several cardinal inequalities and relative versions of cardinal inequalities related to the well-known Arhangel’skii’s inequality: If X is a T 2 -space, then | X | 2 L ( X ) χ ( X ) . Moreover, we will show relative versions of three well-known cardinal inequalities.

A generalization of Čech-complete spaces and Lindelöf Σ -spaces

Aleksander V. Arhangel'skii (2013)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

The class of s -spaces is studied in detail. It includes, in particular, all Čech-complete spaces, Lindelöf p -spaces, metrizable spaces with the weight 2 ω , but countable non-metrizable spaces and some metrizable spaces are not in it. It is shown that s -spaces are in a duality with Lindelöf Σ -spaces: X is an s -space if and only if some (every) remainder of X in a compactification is a Lindelöf Σ -space [Arhangel’skii A.V., Remainders of metrizable and close to metrizable spaces, Fund. Math. 220 (2013),...

A generic theorem in the theory of cardinal invariants of topological spaces

Aleksander V. Arhangel'skii (1995)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Relative versions of many important theorems on cardinal invariants of topological spaces are formulated and proved on the basis of a general technical result, which provides an algorithm for such proofs. New relative cardinal invariants are defined, and open problems are discussed.

A group topology on the free abelian group of cardinality 𝔠 that makes its square countably compact

Ana Carolina Boero, Artur Hideyuki Tomita (2011)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Under 𝔭 = 𝔠, we prove that it is possible to endow the free abelian group of cardinality 𝔠 with a group topology that makes its square countably compact. This answers a question posed by Madariaga-Garcia and Tomita and by Tkachenko. We also prove that there exists a Wallace semigroup (i.e., a countably compact both-sided cancellative topological semigroup which is not a topological group) whose square is countably compact. This answers a question posed by Grant.

A hit-and-miss topology for 2 X , Cₙ(X) and Fₙ(X)

Benjamín Espinoza, Verónica Martínez-de-la-Vega, Jorge M. Martínez-Montejano (2009)

Colloquium Mathematicae

A hit-and-miss topology ( τ H M ) is defined for the hyperspaces 2 X , Cₙ(X) and Fₙ(X) of a continuum X. We study the relationship between τ H M and the Vietoris topology and we find conditions on X for which these topologies are equivalent.

A new approach for KM-fuzzy partial metric spaces

Yu Shen, Chong Shen, Conghua Yan (2022)

Kybernetika

The main purpose of this paper is to give a new approach for partial metric spaces. We first provide the new concept of KM-fuzzy partial metric, as an extension of both the partial metric and KM-fuzzy metric. Then its relationship with the KM-fuzzy quasi-metric is established. In particularly, we construct a KM-fuzzy quasi-metric from a KM-fuzzy partial metric. Finally, after defining the notion of partial pseudo-metric systems, a one-to-one correspondence between partial pseudo-metric systems and...

A new form of fuzzy α -compactness

Fu Gui Shi (2006)

Mathematica Bohemica

A new form of α -compactness is introduced in L -topological spaces by α -open L -sets and their inequality where L is a complete de Morgan algebra. It doesn’t rely on the structure of the basis lattice L . It can also be characterized by means of α -closed L -sets and their inequality. When L is a completely distributive de Morgan algebra, its many characterizations are presented and the relations between it and the other types of compactness are discussed. Countable α -compactness and the α -Lindelöf property...
