Hölder continuity of solutions of second-order non-linear elliptic integro-differential equations

Guy Barles, Emmanuel Chasseigne, Cyril Imbert (2011)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

This paper is concerned with the Hölder regularity of viscosity solutions of second-order, fully non-linear elliptic integro-differential equations. Our results rely on two key ingredients: first we assume that, at each point of the domain, either the equation is strictly elliptic in the classical fully non-linear sense, or (and this is the most original part of our work) the equation is strictly elliptic in a non-local non-linear sense we make precise. Next we impose some regularity and growth...

Incompleteness of the bond market with Lévy noise under the physical measure

Michał Barski (2015)

Banach Center Publications

The problem of completeness of the forward rate based bond market model driven by a Lévy process under the physical measure is examined. The incompleteness of market in the case when the Lévy measure has a density function is shown. The required elements of the theory of stochastic integration over the compensated jump measure under a martingale measure are presented and the corresponding integral representation of local martingales is proven.

Invariance principles for random walks conditioned to stay positive

Francesco Caravenna, Loïc Chaumont (2008)

Annales de l'I.H.P. Probabilités et statistiques

Let {Snbe a random walk in the domain of attraction of a stable law 𝒴 , i.e. there exists a sequence of positive real numbers ( an) such that Sn/anconverges in law to 𝒴 . Our main result is that the rescaled process (S⌊nt⌋/an, t≥0), when conditioned to stay positive, converges in law (in the functional sense) towards the corresponding stable Lévy process conditioned to stay positive. Under some additional assumptions, we also prove a related invariance principle for the random walk killed at its first...

Lévy copulae for financial returns

Ostap Okhrin (2016)

Dependence Modeling

The paper uses Lévy processes and bivariate Lévy copulae in order to model the behavior of intraday log-returns. Based on assumptions about the form of marginal tail integrals and a Clayton Lévy copula, the model allows for capturing intraday cross-dependency. The model is applied to VaR of the portfolios constructed on stock returns as well as on cryptocurrencies. The proposed method shows fair performance compared to classical time series models.

Lévy processes conditioned on having a large height process

Mathieu Richard (2013)

Annales de l'I.H.P. Probabilités et statistiques

In the present work, we consider spectrally positive Lévy processes ( X t , t 0 ) not drifting to + and we are interested in conditioning these processes to reach arbitrarily large heights (in the sense of the height process associated with X ) before hitting 0 . This way we obtain a new conditioning of Lévy processes to stay positive. The (honest) law x of this conditioned process (starting at x g t ; 0 ) is defined as a Doob h -transform via a martingale. For Lévy processes with infinite variation paths, this martingale...

Lévy Processes, Saltatory Foraging, and Superdiffusion

J. F. Burrow, P. D. Baxter, J. W. Pitchford (2008)

Mathematical Modelling of Natural Phenomena

It is well established that resource variability generated by spatial patchiness and turbulence is an important influence on the growth and recruitment of planktonic fish larvae. Empirical data show fractal-like prey distributions, and simulations indicate that scale-invariant foraging strategies may be optimal. Here we show how larval growth and recruitment in a turbulent environment can be formulated as a hitting time problem for a jump-diffusion process. We present two theoretical results. Firstly,...

Local asymptotic normality for normal inverse gaussian Lévy processes with high-frequency sampling

Reiichiro Kawai, Hiroki Masuda (2013)

ESAIM: Probability and Statistics

We prove the local asymptotic normality for the full parameters of the normal inverse Gaussian Lévy process X, when we observe high-frequency data XΔn,X2Δn,...,XnΔn with sampling mesh Δn → 0 and the terminal sampling time nΔn → ∞. The rate of convergence turns out to be (√nΔn, √nΔn, √n, √n) for the dominating parameter (α,β,δ,μ), where α stands for the heaviness of the tails, β the degree of skewness, δ the scale, and μ the location. The essential feature in our study is that the suitably normalized...

Nonparametric adaptive estimation for pure jump Lévy processes

F. Comte, V. Genon-Catalot (2010)

Annales de l'I.H.P. Probabilités et statistiques

This paper is concerned with nonparametric estimation of the Lévy density of a pure jump Lévy process. The sample path is observed at n discrete instants with fixed sampling interval. We construct a collection of estimators obtained by deconvolution methods and deduced from appropriate estimators of the characteristic function and its first derivative. We obtain a bound for the -risk, under general assumptions on the model. Then we propose a penalty function that allows to build an adaptive estimator....

Nonparametric inference for discretely sampled Lévy processes

Shota Gugushvili (2012)

Annales de l'I.H.P. Probabilités et statistiques

Given a sample from a discretely observed Lévy process X = (Xt)t≥0 of the finite jump activity, the problem of nonparametric estimation of the Lévy density ρ corresponding to the process X is studied. An estimator of ρ is proposed that is based on a suitable inversion of the Lévy–Khintchine formula and a plug-in device. The main results of the paper deal with upper risk bounds for estimation of ρ over suitable classes of Lévy triplets. The corresponding lower bounds are also discussed.
