Asymptotics of the integrated density of states for periodic elliptic pseudo-differential operators in dimension one.

Alexander V. Sobolev (2006)

Revista Matemática Iberoamericana

We consider a periodic pseudo-differential operator on the real line, which is a lower-order perturbation of an elliptic operator with a homogeneous symbol and constant coefficients. It is proved that the density of states of such an operator admits a complete asymptotic expansion at large energies. A few first terms of this expansion are found in a closed form.

Beyond the classical Weyl and Colin de Verdière’s formulas for Schrödinger operators with polynomial magnetic and electric fields

Mitya Boyarchenko, Sergei Levendorski (2006)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

We present a pair of conjectural formulas that compute the leading term of the spectral asymptotics of a Schrödinger operator on L 2 ( n ) with quasi-homogeneous polynomial magnetic and electric fields. The construction is based on the orbit method due to Kirillov. It makes sense for any nilpotent Lie algebra and is related to the geometry of coadjoint orbits, as well as to the growth properties of certain “algebraic integrals,” studied by Nilsson. By using the direct variational method, we prove that the...

Billiards and boundary traces of eigenfunctions

Steve Zelditch (2003)

Journées équations aux dérivées partielles

This is a report on recent results with A. Hassell on quantum ergodicity of boundary traces of eigenfunctions on domains with ergodic billiards, and of work in progress with Hassell and Sogge on norms of boundary traces. Related work by Burq, Grieser and Smith-Sogge is also discussed.

Circular operators related to some quantum observables

Wacław Szymański (1997)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

Circular operators related to the operator of multiplication by a homomorphism of a locally compact abelian group and its restrictions are completely characterized. As particular cases descriptions of circular operators related to various quantum observables are given.

Conditions equivalent to C* independence

Shuilin Jin, Li Xu, Qinghua Jiang, Li Li (2012)

Studia Mathematica

Let and be mutually commuting unital C* subalgebras of (). It is shown that and are C* independent if and only if for all natural numbers n, m, for all n-tuples A = (A₁, ..., Aₙ) of doubly commuting nonzero operators of and m-tuples B = (B₁, ..., Bₘ) of doubly commuting nonzero operators of , S p ( A , B ) = S p ( A ) × S p ( B ) , where Sp denotes the joint Taylor spectrum.

Confining quantum particles with a purely magnetic field

Yves Colin de Verdière, Françoise Truc (2010)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

We consider a Schrödinger operator with a magnetic field (and no electric field) on a domain in the Euclidean space with a compact boundary. We give sufficient conditions on the behaviour of the magnetic field near the boundary which guarantees essential self-adjointness of this operator. From the physical point of view, it means that the quantum particle is confined in the domain by the magnetic field. We construct examples in the case where the boundary is smooth as well as for polytopes; These...

Diamagnetic behavior of sums Dirichlet eigenvalues

László Erdös, Michael Loss, Vitali Vougalter (2000)

Annales de l'institut Fourier

The Li-Yau semiclassical lower bound for the sum of the first N eigenvalues of the Dirichlet–Laplacian is extended to Dirichlet– Laplacians with constant magnetic fields. Our method involves a new diamagnetic inequality for constant magnetic fields.
