A federated approach to parallel and distributed simulation of complex systems

Andrzej Sikora, Ewa Niewiadomska-Szynkiewicz (2007)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

The paper describes a Java-based framework called ASimJava that can be used to develop parallel and distributed simulators of complex real-life systems. Some important issues associated with the implementation of parallel and distributed simulations are discussed. Two principal paradigms for constructing simulations today are considered. Particular attention is paid to an approach for federating parallel and distributed simulators. We describe the design, performance and applications of the ASimJava...

A feedforward compensation scheme for perfect decoupling of measurable input functions

Giovanni Marro, Lorenzo Ntogramatzidis (2005)

Kybernetika

In this paper the exact decoupling problem of signals that are accessible for measurement is investigated. Exploiting the tools and the procedures of the geometric approach, the structure of a feedforward compensator is derived that, cascaded to a linear dynamical system and taking the measurable signal as input, provides the control law that solves the decoupling problem and ensures the internal stability of the overall system.

A finite-buffer queue with a single vacation policy: an analytical study with evolutionary positioning

Marcin Woźniak, Wojciech M. Kempa, Marcin Gabryel, Robert K. Nowicki (2014)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

In this paper, application of an evolutionary strategy to positioning a GI/M/1/N-type finite-buffer queueing system with exhaustive service and a single vacation policy is presented. The examined object is modeled by a conditional joint transform of the first busy period, the first idle time and the number of packets completely served during the first busy period. A mathematical model is defined recursively by means of input distributions. In the paper, an analytical study and numerical experiments...

A functorial approach to the behaviour of multidimensional control systems

Jean-François Pommaret, Alban Quadrat (2003)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

We show how to use the extension and torsion functors in order to compute the torsion submodule of a differential module associated with a multidimensional control system. In particular, we show that the concept of the weak primeness of matrices corresponds to the torsion-freeness of a certain module.

A further investigation for Egoroff's theorem with respect to monotone set functions

Jun Li (2003)

Kybernetika

In this paper, we investigate Egoroff’s theorem with respect to monotone set function, and show that a necessary and sufficient condition that Egoroff’s theorem remain valid for monotone set function is that the monotone set function fulfill condition (E). Therefore Egoroff’s theorem for non-additive measure is formulated in full generality.

A fuzzy approach to option pricing in a Levy process setting

Piotr Nowak, Maciej Romaniuk (2013)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

In this paper the problem of European option valuation in a Levy process setting is analysed. In our model the underlying asset follows a geometric Levy process. The jump part of the log-price process, which is a linear combination of Poisson processes, describes upward and downward jumps in price. The proposed pricing method is based on stochastic analysis and the theory of fuzzy sets. We assume that some parameters of the financial instrument cannot be precisely described and therefore they are...

A fuzzy if-then rule-based nonlinear classifier

Jacek Łęski (2003)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

This paper introduces a new classifier design method that is based on a modification of the classical Ho-Kashyap procedure. The proposed method uses the absolute error, rather than the squared error, to design a linear classifier. Additionally, easy control of the generalization ability and robustness to outliers are obtained. Next, an extension to a nonlinear classifier by the mixture-of-experts technique is presented. Each expert is represented by a fuzzy if-then rule in the Takagi-Sugeno-Kang...

A fuzzy nonparametric Shewhart chart based on the bootstrap approach

Dabuxilatu Wang, Olgierd Hryniewicz (2015)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

In this paper, we consider a nonparametric Shewhart chart for fuzzy data. We utilize the fuzzy data without transforming them into a real-valued scalar (a representative value). Usually fuzzy data (described by fuzzy random variables) do not have a distributional model available, and also the size of the fuzzy sample data is small. Based on the bootstrap methodology, we design a nonparametric Shewhart control chart in the space of fuzzy random variables equipped with some L2 metric, in which a novel...

A fuzzy system with ε-insensitive learning of premises and consequences of if-then rules

Jacek Łęski, Tomasz Czogała (2005)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

First, a fuzzy system based on ifFirst, a fuzzy system based on if-then rules and with parametric consequences is recalled. Then, it is shown that the globalthen rules and with parametric consequences is recalled. Then, it is shown that the global and local ε-insensitive learning of the above fuzzy system may be presented as a combination of both an ε-insensitive gradient method and solving a system of linear inequalities. Examples are given of using the introduced method to design fuzzy models...

A Galerkin strategy with Proper Orthogonal Decomposition for parameter-dependent problems – Analysis, assessments and applications to parameter estimation

D. Chapelle, A. Gariah, P. Moireau, J. Sainte-Marie (2013)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis - Modélisation Mathématique et Analyse Numérique

We address the issue of parameter variations in POD approximations of time-dependent problems, without any specific restriction on the form of parameter dependence. Considering a parabolic model problem, we propose a POD construction strategy allowing us to obtain some a priori error estimates controlled by the POD remainder – in the construction procedure – and some parameter-wise interpolation errors for the model solutions. We provide a thorough numerical assessment of this strategy with the...

A general on-the-fly algorithm for modifying the kinematic tree hierarchy

Jakub Stępień, Andrzej Polański, Konrad Wojciechowski (2012)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

When conducting a dynamic simulation of a multibody mechanical system, the model definition may need to be altered during the simulation course due to, e.g., changes in the way the system interacts with external objects. In this paper, we propose a general procedure for modifying simulation models of articulated figures, particularly useful when dealing with systems in time-varying contact with the environment. The proposed algorithm adjusts model connectivity, geometry and current state, producing...

A general solution to the output-zeroing problem for MIMO LTI systems

Jerzy Tokarzewski (2002)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

The problem of zeroing the output in an arbitrary linear continuous-time system S(A,B,C,D) with a nonvanishing transfer function is discussed and necessary conditions for output-zeroing inputs are formulated. All possible real-valued inputs and real initial conditions which produce the identically zero system response are characterized. Strictly proper and proper systems are discussed separately.

A general transfer function representation for a class of hyperbolic distributed parameter systems

Krzysztof Bartecki (2013)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

Results of transfer function analysis for a class of distributed parameter systems described by dissipative hyperbolic partial differential equations defined on a one-dimensional spatial domain are presented. For the case of two boundary inputs, the closed-form expressions for the individual elements of the 2×2 transfer function matrix are derived both in the exponential and in the hyperbolic form, based on the decoupled canonical representation of the system. Some important properties of the transfer...

A generalised proportional-derivative force/vision controller for torque-driven planar robotic manipulators

Carlos Vidrios-Serrano, Marco Mendoza, Isela Bonilla, Berenice Maldonado-Fregoso (2020)

Kybernetika

In this paper, a family of hybrid control algorithms is presented; where it is merged a free camera-calibration image-based control scheme and a direct force controller, both with the same priority level. The aim of this generalised hybrid controller is to regulate the robot-environment interaction into a two-dimensional task-space. The design of the proposed control structure takes into account most of the dynamic effects present in robot manipulators whose inputs are torque signals. As examples...

A generalization of the graph Laplacian with application to a distributed consensus algorithm

Guisheng Zhai (2015)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

In order to describe the interconnection among agents with multi-dimensional states, we generalize the notion of a graph Laplacian by extending the adjacency weights (or weighted interconnection coefficients) from scalars to matrices. More precisely, we use positive definite matrices to denote full multi-dimensional interconnections, while using nonnegative definite matrices to denote partial multi-dimensional interconnections. We prove that the generalized graph Laplacian inherits the spectral...
