Sensor network design for the estimation of spatially distributed processes

Dariusz Uciński, Maciej Patan (2010)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

In a typical moving contaminating source identification problem, after some type of biological or chemical contamination has occurred, there is a developing cloud of dangerous or toxic material. In order to detect and localize the contamination source, a sensor network can be used. Up to now, however, approaches aiming at guaranteeing a dense region coverage or satisfactory network connectivity have dominated this line of research and abstracted away from the mathematical description of the physical...

Some algorithmic aspects of subspace identificationwith inputs

Alessandro Chiuso, Giorgio Picci (2001)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

It has been experimentally verified that most commonly used subspace methods for identification of linear state-space systems with exogenous inputs may, in certain experimental conditions, run into ill-conditioning and lead to ambiguous results. An analysis of the critical situations has lead us to propose a new algorithmic structure which could be used either to test difficult cases andor to implement a suitable combination of new and old algorithms presented in the literature to help fixing the...

Source localization and sensor placement in environmental monitoring

Alexander Khapalov (2010)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

In this paper we discuss two closely related problems arising in environmental monitoring. The first is the source localization problem linked to the question How can one find an unknown "contamination source"? The second is an associated sensor placement problem: Where should we place sensors that are capable of providing the necessary "adequate data" for that? Our approach is based on some concepts and ideas developed in mathematical control theory of partial differential equations.

Structural identifiability analysis of nonlinear time delayed systems with generalized frequency response functions

Gergely Szlobodnyik, Gábor Szederkényi (2021)

Kybernetika

In this paper a novel method is proposed for the structural identifiability analysis of nonlinear time delayed systems. It is assumed that all the nonlinearities are analytic functions and the time delays are constant. We consider the joint structural identifiability of models with respect to the ordinary system parameters and time delays by including delays into a unified parameter set. We employ the Volterra series representation of nonlinear dynamical systems and make use of the frequency domain...

System identification from multiple-trial data corrupted by non-repeating periodic disturbances

Minh Phan, Richard Longman, Soo Lee, Jae-Won Lee (2003)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

Iterative learning and repetitive control aim to eliminate the effect of unwanted disturbances over repeated trials or cycles. The disturbance-free system model, if known, can be used in a model-based iterative learning or repetitive control system to eliminate the unwanted disturbances. In the case of periodic disturbances, although the unknown disturbance frequencies may be the same from trial to trial, the disturbance amplitudes, phases, and biases do not necessarily repeat. Furthermore, the...

The role of parameter constraints in EE and OE methods for optimal identification of continuous LTI models

Witold Byrski, Jedrzej Byrski (2012)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

The paper presents two methods used for the identification of Continuous-time Linear Time Invariant (CLTI) systems. In both methods the idea of using modulating functions and a convolution filter is exploited. It enables the proper transformation of a differential equation to an algebraic equation with the same parameters. Possible different normalizations of the model are strictly connected with different parameter constraints which have to be assumed for the nontrivial solution of the optimal...
