A hybrid procedure to identify the optimal stiffness coefficients of elastically restrained beams

Tiago Silva, Maria Loja, Nuno Maia, Joaquim Barbosa (2015)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

The formulation of a bending vibration problem of an elastically restrained Bernoulli-Euler beam carrying a finite number of concentrated elements along its length is presented. In this study, the authors exploit the application of the differential evolution optimization technique to identify the torsional stiffness properties of the elastic supports of a Bernoulli-Euler beam. This hybrid strategy allows the determination of the natural frequencies and mode shapes of continuous beams, taking into...

A simple mathematical model of the human liver

Lenka Čelechovská (2004)

Applications of Mathematics

The parameter estimation problem for a continuous dynamical system is a difficult one. In this paper we study a simple mathematical model of the liver. For the parameter identification we use the observed clinical data obtained by the BSP test. Bellman’s quasilinearization method and its modifications are applied.

A simple scheme for semi-recursive identification of Hammerstein system nonlinearity by Haar wavelets

Przemysław Śliwiński, Zygmunt Hasiewicz, Paweł Wachel (2013)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

A simple semi-recursive routine for nonlinearity recovery in Hammerstein systems is proposed. The identification scheme is based on the Haar wavelet kernel and possesses a simple and compact form. The convergence of the algorithm is established and the asymptotic rate of convergence (independent of the input density smoothness) is shown for piecewiseLipschitz nonlinearities. The numerical stability of the algorithm is verified. Simulation experiments for a small and moderate number of input-output...

A vehicle-track-soil dynamic interaction problem in sequential and parallel formulation

Janusz Kogut, Henryk Ciurej (2010)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

Some problems regarding numerical modeling of predicted vibrations excited by railway traffic are discussed. Model formulation in the field of structural mechanics comprises a vehicle, a track (often in a tunnel) and soil. Time consuming computations are needed to update large matrices at every discrete step. At first, a sequential Matlab code is generated. Later on, the formulation is modified to use grid computing, thereby a significant reduction in computational time is expected.

Adaptive Parameter Estimation of Hyperbolic Distributed Parameter Systems: Non-symmetric Damping and Slowly Time Varying Systems

H. T. Banks, M. A. Demetriou (2010)

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

In this paper a model reference-based adaptive parameter estimator for a wide class of hyperbolic distributed parameter systems is considered. The proposed state and parameter estimator can handle hyperbolic systems in which the damping sesquilinear form may not be symmetric (or even present) and a modification to the standard adaptive law is introduced to account for this lack of symmetry (or absence) in the damping form. In addition, the proposed scheme is modified for systems in which the input...

An agent-oriented hierarchic strategy for solving inverse problems

Maciej Smołka, Robert Schaefer, Maciej Paszyński, David Pardo, Julen Álvarez-Aramberri (2015)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

The paper discusses the complex, agent-oriented hierarchic memetic strategy (HMS) dedicated to solving inverse parametric problems. The strategy goes beyond the idea of two-phase global optimization algorithms. The global search performed by a tree of dependent demes is dynamically alternated with local, steepest descent searches. The strategy offers exceptionally low computational costs, mainly because the direct solver accuracy (performed by the hp-adaptive finite element method) is dynamically...

An algebraic framework for linear identification

Michel Fliess, Hebertt Sira-Ramírez (2003)

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

A closed loop parametrical identification procedure for continuous-time constant linear systems is introduced. This approach which exhibits good robustness properties with respect to a large variety of additive perturbations is based on the following mathematical tools: (1) module theory; (2) differential algebra; (3) operational calculus. Several concrete case-studies with computer simulations demonstrate the efficiency of our on-line identification scheme.

An instrumental variable method for robot identification based on time variable parameter estimation

Mathieu Brunot, Alexandre Janot, Peter Young, Francisco Carrillo (2018)

Kybernetika

This paper considers the data-based identification of industrial robots using an instrumental variable method that uses off-line estimation of the joint velocities and acceleration signals based only on the measurement of the joint positions. The usual approach to this problem relies on a ‘tailor-made’ prefiltering procedure for estimating the derivatives that depends on good prior knowledge of the system's bandwidth. The paper describes an alternative Integrated Random Walk SMoothing (IRWSM) method...

Applications of regime-switching models based on aggregation operators

Jozef Komorník, Magda Komorníková (2007)

Kybernetika

A synthesis of recent development of regime-switching models based on aggregation operators is presented. It comprises procedures for model specification and identification, parameter estimation and model adequacy testing. Constructions of models for real life data from hydrology and finance are presented.

Approximation of a linear dynamic process model using the frequency approach and a non-quadratic measure of the model error

Krzysztof B. Janiszowski (2014)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

The paper presents a novel approach to approximation of a linear transfer function model, based on dynamic properties represented by a frequency response, e.g., determined as a result of discrete-time identification. The approximation is derived for minimization of a non-quadratic performance index. This index can be determined as an exponent or absolute norm of an error. Two algorithms for determination of the approximation coefficients are considered, a batch processing one and a recursive scheme,...
