The sharpness of convergence results for q -Bernstein polynomials in the case q > 1

Sofiya Ostrovska (2008)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Due to the fact that in the case q > 1 the q -Bernstein polynomials are no longer positive linear operators on C [ 0 , 1 ] , the study of their convergence properties turns out to be essentially more difficult than that for q < 1 . In this paper, new saturation theorems related to the convergence of q -Bernstein polynomials in the case q > 1 are proved.

The smallest positive eigenvalue of a quasisymmetric automorphism of the unit circle

Dariusz Partyka (1995)

Banach Center Publications

This paper provides sufficient conditions on a quasisymmetric automorphism γ of the unit circle which guarantee the existence of the smallest positive eigenvalue of γ. They are expressed by means of a regular quasiconformal Teichmüller self-mapping φ of the unit disc Δ. In particular, the norm of the generalized harmonic conjugation operator A γ : is determined by the maximal dilatation of φ. A characterization of all eigenvalues of a quasisymmetric automorphism γ in terms of the smallest positive eigenvalue...

The spectrum of Schrödinger operators with random δ magnetic fields

Takuya Mine, Yuji Nomura (2009)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

We shall consider the Schrödinger operators on 2 with the magnetic field given by a nonnegative constant field plus random δ magnetic fields of the Anderson type or of the Poisson-Anderson type. We shall investigate the spectrum of these operators by the method of the admissible potentials by Kirsch-Martinelli. Moreover, we shall prove the lower Landau levels are infinitely degenerated eigenvalues when the constant field is sufficiently large, by estimating the growth order of the eigenfunctions...

The structure of disjoint iteration groups on the circle

Krzysztof Ciepliński (2004)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

The aim of the paper is to investigate the structure of disjoint iteration groups on the unit circle 𝕊 1 , that is, families = { F v 𝕊 1 𝕊 1 v V } of homeomorphisms such that F v 1 F v 2 = F v 1 + v 2 , v 1 , v 2 V , and each F v either is the identity mapping or has no fixed point ( ( V , + ) is an arbitrary 2 -divisible nontrivial (i.e., c a r d V > 1 ) abelian group).

The theorems of Stewart and Steiner in the Poincaré disc model of hyperbolic geometry

Oğuzhan Demirel (2009)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

In [Comput. Math. Appl. 41 (2001), 135--147], A. A. Ungar employs the Möbius gyrovector spaces for the introduction of the hyperbolic trigonometry. This Ungar's work plays a major role in translating some theorems from Euclidean geometry to corresponding theorems in hyperbolic geometry. In this paper we explore the theorems of Stewart and Steiner in the Poincaré disc model of hyperbolic geometry.

The traveling salesman problem and harmonic analysis.

Peter W. Jones (1991)

Publicacions Matemàtiques

In this paper we propose to discuss some relationships between the classical Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP), Litlewood-Paley theory, and harmonic measure. This circle of ideas is also closely related to the theory of Cauchy integrals on Lipschitz graphs, and this aspect is discussed more fully in the paper of David and Semmes [2] in this proceedings. The main differences between the subjects in [2] and this paper are that the results here are valid for one dimensional sets, whereas [2] treats...
