We prove that for normal operators N 1 , N 2 ( ) , the generalized commutator [ N 1 , N 2 ; X ] approaches zero when [ N 1 , N 2 ; [ N 1 , N 2 ; X ] ] tends to zero in the norm of the Schatten-von Neumann class 𝒞 p with p > 1 and X varies in a bounded set of such a class.

Exponential domination in function spaces

Similarity:

Given a Tychonoff space X and an infinite cardinal κ , we prove that exponential κ -domination in X is equivalent to exponential κ -cofinality of C p ( X ) . On the other hand, exponential κ -cofinality of X is equivalent to exponential κ -domination in C p ( X ) . We show that every exponentially κ -cofinal space X has a κ + -small diagonal; besides, if X is κ -stable, then n w ( X ) κ . In particular, any compact exponentially κ -cofinal space has weight not exceeding κ . We also establish that any exponentially κ -cofinal...

Linear maps preserving A -unitary operators

Mathematica Bohemica

Similarity:

Let be a complex Hilbert space, A a positive operator with closed range in ( ) and A ( ) the sub-algebra of ( ) of all A -self-adjoint operators. Assume φ : A ( ) onto itself is a linear continuous map. This paper shows that if φ preserves A -unitary operators such that φ ( I ) = P then ψ defined by ψ ( T ) = P φ ( P T ) is a homomorphism or an anti-homomorphism and ψ ( T ) = ψ ( T ) for all T A ( ) , where P = A + A and A + is the Moore-Penrose inverse of A . A similar result is also true if φ preserves A -quasi-unitary operators in both directions such that there...

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

Let [ t ] be the integral part of a real number t , and let f be the arithmetic function satisfying some simple condition. We establish a new asymptotical formula for the sum S f ( x ) = n x f ( [ x / n ] ) , which improves the recent result of J. Stucky (2022).

Perturbations of real parts of eigenvalues of bounded linear operators in a Hilbert space

Michael Gil' (2024)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

Let A be a bounded linear operator in a complex separable Hilbert space , and S be a selfadjoint operator in . Assuming that A - S belongs to the Schatten-von Neumann ideal 𝒮 p ( p > 1 ) , we derive a bound for k | R λ k ( A ) - λ k ( S ) | p , where λ k ( A ) ( k = 1 , 2 , ) are the eigenvalues of A . Our results are formulated in terms of the “extended” eigenvalue sets in the sense introduced by T. Kato. In addition, in the case p = 2 we refine the Weyl inequality between the real parts of the eigenvalues of A and the eigenvalues...

Let L ( H ) denote the algebra of all bounded linear operators on a complex infinite dimensional Hilbert space H . For A , B L ( H ) , the generalized derivation δ A , B and the multiplication operator M A , B are defined on L ( H ) by δ A , B ( X ) = A X - X B and M A , B ( X ) = A X B . In this paper, we give a characterization of bounded operators A and B such that the range of M A , B is closed. We present some sufficient conditions for δ A , B to have closed range. Some related results are also given.

H calculus and dilatations

Andreas M. Fröhlich, Lutz Weis (2006)

Bulletin de la Société Mathématique de France

Similarity:

We characterise the boundedness of the H calculus of a sectorial operator in terms of dilation theorems. We show e. g. that if - A generates a bounded analytic C 0 semigroup ( T t ) on a UMD space, then the H calculus of A is bounded if and only if ( T t ) has a dilation to a bounded group on L 2 ( [ 0 , 1 ] , X ) . This generalises a Hilbert space result of C.LeMerdy. If X is an L p space we can choose another L p space in place of L 2 ( [ 0 , 1 ] , X ) .

More on exposed points and extremal points of convex sets in n and Hilbert space

Let 𝕍 be a separable real Hilbert space, k with k < dim 𝕍 , and let B be convex and closed in 𝕍 . Let 𝒫 be a collection of linear k -subspaces of 𝕍 . A point w B is called exposed by 𝒫 if there is a P 𝒫 so that ( w + P ) B = { w } . We show that, under some natural conditions, B can be reconstituted as the convex hull of the closure of all its exposed by 𝒫 points whenever 𝒫 is dense and G δ . In addition, we discuss the question when the set of exposed by some 𝒫 points forms a G δ -set.

C * -points vs P -points and P -points

Jorge Martinez, Warren Wm. McGovern (2022)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Similarity:

In a Tychonoff space X , the point p X is called a C * -point if every real-valued continuous function on C { p } can be extended continuously to p . Every point in an extremally disconnected space is a C * -point. A classic example is the space 𝐖 * = ω 1 + 1 consisting of the countable ordinals together with ω 1 . The point ω 1 is known to be a C * -point as well as a P -point. We supply a characterization of C * -points in totally ordered spaces. The remainder of our time is aimed at studying when a point in a product space...

Selectors of discrete coarse spaces

Given a coarse space ( X , ) with the bornology of bounded subsets, we extend the coarse structure from X × X to the natural coarse structure on ( { } ) × ( { } ) and say that a macro-uniform mapping f : ( { } ) X (or f : [ X ] 2 X ) is a selector (or 2-selector) of ( X , ) if f ( A ) A for each A { } ( A [ X ] 2 , respectively). We prove that a discrete coarse space ( X , ) admits a selector if and only if ( X , ) admits a 2-selector if and only if there exists a linear order “ " on X such that the family of intervals { [ a , b ] : a , b X , a b } is a base for the bornology .
