Expansion in S L d ( 𝒪 K / I ) , I square-free

Péter P. Varjú (2012)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Let S be a fixed symmetric finite subset of S L d ( 𝒪 K ) that generates a Zariski dense subgroup of S L d ( 𝒪 K ) when we consider it as an algebraic group over m a t h b b Q by restriction of scalars. We prove that the Cayley graphs of S L d ( 𝒪 K / I ) with respect to the projections of S is an expander family if I ranges over square-free ideals of 𝒪 K if d = 2 and K is an arbitrary numberfield, or if d = 3 and K = .

Extension of complexes of groups

André Haefliger (1992)

Annales de l'institut Fourier

Complexes of groups G ( X ) over ordered simplicial complexes X are generalizations to higher dimensions of graphs of groups. We first relate them to complexes of spaces by considering their classifying space B G ( X ) . Then we develop their homological algebra aspects. We define the notions of homology and cohomology of a complex of groups G ( X ) with coefficients in a G ( X ) -module and show the existence of free resolutions. We apply those notions to study extensions of complexes of groups with constant or abelian kernel....

Extensions of partially ordered partial abelian monoids

Sylvia Pulmannová (2006)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

The notion of a partially ordered partial abelian monoid is introduced and extensions of partially ordered abelian monoids by partially ordered abelian groups are studied. Conditions for the extensions to exist are found. The cases when both the above mentioned structures have the Riesz decomposition property, or are lattice ordered, are treated. Some applications to effect algebras and MV-algebras are shown.

Families of jacobian manifolds and characteristic classes of surface bundles. I

Shigeyuki Morita (1989)

Annales de l'institut Fourier

In our previous work we have defined the notion of characteristic classes of surface bundles, which are differentiable fibre bundles whose fibres are closed oriented surfaces. In this paper we derive new relations between these characteristic classes by considering a canonical embedding of a given surface bundle with cross section to its associated family of Jacobian manifolds. As a key technical step we determine the first cohomology group of the mapping class group of oriented surfaces with coefficients...
