A continuity property for the inverse of Mañé's projection

Zdeněk Skalák (1998)

Applications of Mathematics

Let X be a compact subset of a separable Hilbert space H with finite fractal dimension d F ( X ) , and P 0 an orthogonal projection in H of rank greater than or equal to 2 d F ( X ) + 1 . For every δ > 0 , there exists an orthogonal projection P in H of the same rank as P 0 , which is injective when restricted to X and such that P - P 0 < δ . This result follows from Mañé’s paper. Thus the inverse ( P | X ) - 1 of the restricted mapping P | X X P X is well defined. It is natural to ask whether there exists a universal modulus of continuity for the inverse of Mañé’s...

A necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of an exponential attractor

Dalibor Pražák (2003)

Open Mathematics

We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of an exponential attractor. The condition is formulated in the context of metric spaces. It also captures the quantitative properties of the attractor, i.e., the dimension and the rate of attraction. As an application, we show that the evolution operator for the wave equation with nonlinear damping has an exponential attractor.

An upper bound on the attractor dimension of a 2D turbulent shear flow with a free boundary condition

Mahdi Boukrouche, Grzegorz Łukaszewicz (2005)

Banach Center Publications

We consider a free boundary problem of a two-dimensional Navier-Stokes shear flow. There exist a unique global in time solution of the considered problem as well as the global attractor for the associated semigroup. As in [1] and [2], we estimate from above the dimension of the attractor in terms of given data and the geometry of the domain of the flow. This research is motivated by a free boundary problem from lubrication theory where the domain of the flow is usually very thin and the roughness...

Attractors for general operators

Alain Miranville (2003)

Applications of Mathematics

In this article we introduce the notion of a minimal attractor for families of operators that do not necessarily form semigroups. We then obtain some results on the existence of the minimal attractor. We also consider the nonautonomous case. As an application, we obtain the existence of the minimal attractor for models of Cahn-Hilliard equations in deformable elastic continua.

Attractors of Strongly Dissipative Systems

A. G. Ramm (2009)

Bulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Mathematics

A class of infinite-dimensional dissipative dynamical systems is defined for which there exists a unique equilibrium point, and the rate of convergence to this point of the trajectories of a dynamical system from the above class is exponential. All the trajectories of the system converge to this point as t → +∞, no matter what the initial conditions are. This class consists of strongly dissipative systems. An example of such systems is provided by passive systems in network theory (see, e.g., MR0601947...

Cauchy problems in weighted Lebesgue spaces

Jan W. Cholewa, Tomasz Dłotko (2004)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Global solvability and asymptotics of semilinear parabolic Cauchy problems in n are considered. Following the approach of A. Mielke [15] these problems are investigated in weighted Sobolev spaces. The paper provides also a theory of second order elliptic operators in such spaces considered over n , n . In particular, the generation of analytic semigroups and the embeddings for the domains of fractional powers of elliptic operators are discussed.

Dependence of hidden attractors on non-linearity and Hamilton energy in a class of chaotic system

Ge Zhang, Chunni Wang, Ahmed Alsaedi, Jun Ma, Guodong Ren (2018)

Kybernetika

Non-linearity is essential for occurrence of chaos in dynamical system. The size of phase space and formation of attractors are much dependent on the setting of nonlinear function and parameters. In this paper, a three-variable dynamical system is controlled by different nonlinear function thus a class of chaotic system is presented, the Hamilton function is calculated to find the statistical dynamical property of the improved dynamical systems composed of hidden attractors. The standard dynamical...

Dynamics of Singularity Surfaces for Compressible Navier-Stokes Flows in Two Space Dimensions

David Hoff (2001)

Journées équations aux dérivées partielles

We prove the global existence of solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations of compressible, barotropic flow in two space dimensions with piecewise smooth initial data. These solutions remain piecewise smooth for all time, retaining simple jump discontinuities in the density and in the divergence of the velocity across a smooth curve, which is convected with the flow. The strengths of these discontinuities are shown to decay exponentially in time, more rapidly for larger acoustic speeds and smaller...

Entropy of scalar reaction-diffusion equations

Siniša Slijepčević (2014)

Mathematica Bohemica

We consider scalar reaction-diffusion equations on bounded and extended domains, both with the autonomous and time-periodic nonlinear term. We discuss the meaning and implications of the ergodic Poincaré-Bendixson theorem to dynamics. In particular, we show that in the extended autonomous case, the space-time topological entropy is zero. Furthermore, we characterize in the extended nonautonomous case the space-time topological and metric entropies as entropies of a pair of commuting planar homeomorphisms....

Exponential decay to partially thermoelastic materials

Jaime E. Muñoz Rivera, Vanilde Bisognin, Eleni Bisognin (2002)

Bollettino dell'Unione Matematica Italiana

We study the thermoelastic system for material which are partially thermoelastic. That is, a material divided into two parts, one of them a good conductor of heat, so there exists a thermoelastic phenomenon. The other is a bad conductor of heat so there is not heat flux. We prove for such models that the solution decays exponentially as time goes to infinity. We also consider a nonlinear case.
