On upper and lower bounds of the numerical radius and an equality condition

Takeaki Yamazaki (2007)

Studia Mathematica

We give an inequality relating the operator norm of T and the numerical radii of T and its Aluthge transform. It is a more precise estimate of the numerical radius than Kittaneh's result [Studia Math. 158 (2003)]. Then we obtain an equivalent condition for the numerical radius to be equal to half the operator norm.

Operator positivity and analytic models of commuting tuples of operators

Monojit Bhattacharjee, Jaydeb Sarkar (2016)

Studia Mathematica

We study analytic models of operators of class C · 0 with natural positivity assumptions. In particular, we prove that for an m-hypercontraction T C · 0 on a Hilbert space , there exist Hilbert spaces and ⁎ and a partially isometric multiplier θ ∈ ℳ (H²(),A²ₘ(⁎)) such that θ = A ² ( ) θ H ² ( ) and T P θ M z | θ , where A²ₘ(⁎) is the ⁎-valued weighted Bergman space and H²() is the -valued Hardy space over the unit disc . We then proceed to study analytic models for doubly commuting n-tuples of operators and investigate their applications...

Operators of Hankel type

S. Bermudo, S. A. M. Marcantognini, M. D. Morán (2006)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Hankel operators and their symbols, as generalized by V. Pták and P. Vrbová, are considered. The present note provides a parametric labeling of all the Hankel symbols of a given Hankel operator X by means of Schur class functions. The result includes uniqueness criteria and a Schur like formula. As a by-product, a new proof of the existence of Hankel symbols is obtained. The proof is established by associating to the data of the problem a suitable isometry V so that there is a bijective correspondence...

Operator-valued n-harmonic measure in the polydisc

Anders Olofsson (2004)

Studia Mathematica

An operator-valued multi-variable Poisson type integral is studied. In Section 2 we obtain a new equivalent condition for the existence of a so-called regular unitary dilation of an n-tuple T=(T₁,...,Tₙ) of commuting contractions. Our development in Section 2 also contains a new proof of the classical dilation result of S. Brehmer, B. Sz.-Nagy and I. Halperin. In Section 3 we turn to the boundary behavior of this operator-valued Poisson integral. The results obtained in this section improve upon...

Potapov-Ginsburg Transformation and Functional Models of Non-Dissipative Operators

Zolotarev, Vladimir A., Hatamleh, Raéd (2009)

Serdica Mathematical Journal

2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: Primary 47A20, 47A45; Secondary 47A48.A relation between an arbitrary bounded operator A and dissipative operator A+, built by A in the following way A+ = A+ij*Q-j, where A-A* = ij*Jj, (J = Q+-Q- is involution), is studied. The characteristic functions of the operators A and A+ are expressed by each other using the known Potapov-Ginsburg linear-fractional transformations. The explicit form of the resolvent (A-lI)-1 is expressed by (A+-lI)-1 and (A+*-lI)-1...

Projectivity and lifting of Hilbert module maps

Douglas N. Clark (1997)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

In a recent paper, Carlson, Foiaş, Williams and the author proved that isometric Hilbert modules are projective in the category of Hilbert modules similar to contractive ones. In this paper, a simple proof, based on a strengthened lifting theorem, is given. The proof also applies to an equivalent theorem of Foiaş and Williams on similarity to a contraction of a certain 2 × 2 operator matrix.

Quantum states satisfying classical probability constraints

Elena R. Loubenets (2006)

Banach Center Publications

For linear combinations of quantum product averages in an arbitrary bipartite state, we derive new quantum Bell-form and CHSH-form inequalities with the right-hand sides expressed in terms of a bipartite state. This allows us to specify bipartite state properties sufficient for the validity of a classical CHSH-form inequality and the perfect correlation form of the original Bell inequality for any bounded quantum observables. We also introduce a new general condition on a bipartite state and quantum...

Smooth operators in the commutant of a contraction

Pascale Vitse (2003)

Studia Mathematica

For a completely non-unitary contraction T, some necessary (and, in certain cases, sufficient) conditions are found for the range of the H calculus, H ( T ) , and the commutant, T’, to contain non-zero compact operators, and for the finite rank operators of T’ to be dense in the set of compact operators of T’. A sufficient condition is given for T’ to contain non-zero operators from the Schatten-von Neumann classes S p .

Sobczyk's theorem and the Bounded Approximation Property

Jesús M. F. Castillo, Yolanda Moreno (2010)

Studia Mathematica

Sobczyk's theorem asserts that every c₀-valued operator defined on a separable Banach space can be extended to every separable superspace. This paper is devoted to obtaining the most general vector valued version of the theorem, extending and completing previous results of Rosenthal, Johnson-Oikhberg and Cabello. Our approach is homological and nonlinear, transforming the problem of extension of operators into the problem of approximating z-linear maps by linear maps.
