On spectral properties of linear combinations of idempotents

Let P,Q be two linear idempotents on a Banach space. We show that the closedness of the range and complementarity of the kernel (range) of linear combinations of P and Q are independent of the choice of coefficients. This generalizes known results and shows that many spectral properties of linear combinations do not depend on their coefficients.

On the dependence of the orthogonal projector on deformations of the scalar product

We consider scalar products on a given Hilbert space parametrized by bounded positive and invertible operators defined on this space, and orthogonal projectors onto a fixed closed subspace of the initial Hilbert space corresponding to these scalar products. We show that the projector is an analytic function of the scalar product, we give the explicit formula for its Taylor expansion, and we prove some algebraic formulas for projectors.

On the Rademacher maximal function

This paper studies a new maximal operator introduced by Hytönen, McIntosh and Portal in 2008 for functions taking values in a Banach space. The L p -boundedness of this operator depends on the range space; certain requirements on type and cotype are present for instance. Some general representation formulae for (C₀) m-parameter operator semigroups with rates of convergence are obtained by the probabilistic approach and multiplier enlargement method. These cover all known representation formulae for (C₀) one- and m-parameter operator semigroups as special cases. When we consider special semigroups we recover well-known convergence theorems for multivariate approximation operators.

We study a class of operator polynomials in Hilbert space which are spectraloid in the sense that spectral radius and numerical radius coincide. The focus is on the spectrum in the boundary of the numerical range. As an application, the Eneström-Kakeya-Hurwitz theorem on zeros of real polynomials is generalized to Hilbert space.
