Ball remotal subspaces of Banach spaces

Pradipta Bandyopadhyay, Bor-Luh Lin, T. S. S. R. K. Rao (2009)

Colloquium Mathematicae

We study Banach spaces X with subspaces Y whose unit ball is densely remotal in X. We show that for several classes of Banach spaces, the unit ball of the space of compact operators is densely remotal in the space of bounded operators. We also show that for several classical Banach spaces, the unit ball is densely remotal in the duals of higher even order. We show that for a separable remotal set E ⊆ X, the set of Bochner integrable functions with values in E is a remotal set in L¹(μ,X).

Katuhiko Kanazashi, Hiroyuki Okazaki, Yasunari Shidama (2011)

Formalized Mathematics

In this article, we describe some basic properties of the Banach algebra which is constructed from all bounded complex-valued functionals.

Banach manifolds of algebraic elements in the algebra (H) of bounded linear operatorsof bounded linear operators

José Isidro (2005)

Open Mathematics

Given a complex Hilbert space H, we study the manifold 𝒜 of algebraic elements in Z = H . We represent 𝒜 as a disjoint union of closed connected subsets M of Z each of which is an orbit under the action of G, the group of all C*-algebra automorphisms of Z. Those orbits M consisting of hermitian algebraic elements with a fixed finite rank r, (0< r<∞) are real-analytic direct submanifolds of Z. Using the C*-algebra structure of Z, a Banach-manifold structure and a G-invariant torsionfree affine...

Banach spaces with small Calkin algebras

Manuel González (2007)

Banach Center Publications

Let X be a Banach space. Let 𝓐(X) be a closed ideal in the algebra ℒ(X) of the operators acting on X. We say that ℒ(X)/𝓐(X) is a Calkin algebra whenever the Fredholm operators on X coincide with the operators whose class in ℒ(X)/𝓐(X) is invertible. Among other examples, we have the cases in which 𝓐(X) is the ideal of compact, strictly singular, strictly cosingular and inessential operators, and some other ideals introduced as perturbation classes in Fredholm theory. Our aim is to present some...

Besov spaces and 2-summing operators

M. A. Fugarolas (2004)

Colloquium Mathematicae

Let Π₂ be the operator ideal of all absolutely 2-summing operators and let I m be the identity map of the m-dimensional linear space. We first establish upper estimates for some mixing norms of I m . Employing these estimates, we study the embedding operators between Besov function spaces as mixing operators. The result obtained is applied to give sufficient conditions under which certain kinds of integral operators, acting on a Besov function space, belong to Π₂; in this context, we also consider the...

Biduals of tensor products in operator spaces

Verónica Dimant, Maite Fernández-Unzueta (2015)

Studia Mathematica

We study whether the operator space V * * α W * * can be identified with a subspace of the bidual space ( V α W ) * * , for a given operator space tensor norm. We prove that this can be done if α is finitely generated and V and W are locally reflexive. If in addition the dual spaces are locally reflexive and the bidual spaces have the completely bounded approximation property, then the identification is through a complete isomorphism. When α is the projective, Haagerup or injective norm, the hypotheses can be weakened.
