On finding optimal parameters of an oscillatory model of handwriting

Gaëtan André, Frédéric Messine (2014)

RAIRO - Operations Research - Recherche Opérationnelle

In this paper, we show how optimization methods can be used efficiently to determine the parameters of an oscillatory model of handwriting. Because these methods have to be used in real-time applications, this involves that the optimization problems must be rapidely solved. Hence, we developed an original heuristic algorithm, named FHA. This code was validated by comparing it (accuracy/CPU-times) with a multistart method based on Trust Region Reflective algorithm.

On fuzzy input data and the worst scenario method

Jan Chleboun (2003)

Applications of Mathematics

In practice, input data entering a state problem are almost always uncertain to some extent. Thus it is natural to consider a set 𝒰 a d of admissible input data instead of a fixed and unique input. The worst scenario method takes into account all states generated by 𝒰 a d and maximizes a functional criterion reflecting a particular feature of the state solution, as local stress, displacement, or temperature, for instance. An increase in the criterion value indicates a deterioration in the featured quantity....

On modelling planning under uncertainty in manufacturing.

A. Alonso-Ayuso, L. F. Escudero, M.T. Ortuño (2007)

SORT

We present a modelling framework for two-stage and multi-stage mixed 0-1 problems under uncertainty for strategic Supply Chain Management, tactical production planning and operations assignment and scheduling. A scenario tree based scheme is used to represent the uncertainty. We present the Deterministic Equivalent Model of the stochastic mixed 0-1 programs with complete recourse that we study. The constraints are modelled by compact and splitting variable representations via scenarios.

On two methods for the parameter estimation problem with spatio-temporal FRAP data

Papáček, Štěpán, Jablonský, Jiří, Matonoha, Ctirad (2015)

Programs and Algorithms of Numerical Mathematics

FRAP (Fluorescence Recovery After Photobleaching) is a measurement technique for determination of the mobility of fluorescent molecules (presumably due to the diffusion process) within the living cells. While the experimental setup and protocol are usually fixed, the method used for the model parameter estimation, i.e. the data processing step, is not well established. In order to enhance the quantitative analysis of experimental (noisy) FRAP data, we firstly formulate the inverse problem of model...

Optimal decentralized control design with disturbance decoupling

Petros G. Voulgaris (2002)

Kybernetika

In this paper we present an input-output point of view for the problem of closed loop norm minimization of stable plants when a decentralized structure and a disturbance decoupling property are imposed on the controller. We show that this problem is convex and present approaches to its solution in the optimal 1 sense in the nontrivial case which is when the block off- diagonal terms of the plant have more columns than rows.

Optimal placement of electrodes in an electroporation process

Nicolae Cîndea, Benoît Fabrèges, Frédéric de Gournay, Clair Poignard (2010)

ESAIM: Proceedings

Electroporation consists in increasing the permeability of a tissue by applying high voltage pulses. In this paper we discuss the question of optimal placement and optimal loading of electrodes such that electroporation holds only in a given open set of the domain. The electroporated set of the domain is where the norm of the electric field is above a given threshold value. We use a standard gradient algorithm to optimize the loading of the electrodes...

Optimality conditions for maximizers of the information divergence from an exponential family

František Matúš (2007)

Kybernetika

The information divergence of a probability measure P from an exponential family over a finite set is defined as infimum of the divergences of P from Q subject to Q . All directional derivatives of the divergence from are explicitly found. To this end, behaviour of the conjugate of a log-Laplace transform on the boundary of its domain is analysed. The first order conditions for P to be a maximizer of the divergence from are presented, including new ones when P  is not projectable to .

Optimisation de plans de financement immobiliers

Frédéric Gardi (2010)

RAIRO - Operations Research
