Constrained Steiner trees in Halin graphs

Guangting Chen, Rainer E. Burkard (2003)

RAIRO - Operations Research - Recherche Opérationnelle

In this paper, we study the problem of computing a minimum cost Steiner tree subject to a weight constraint in a Halin graph where each edge has a nonnegative integer cost and a nonnegative integer weight. We prove the NP-hardness of this problem and present a fully polynomial time approximation scheme for this NP-hard problem.

Construction de facettes pour le polytope du sac-à-dos quadratique en 0-1

Alain Faye, Olivier Boyer (2010)

RAIRO - Operations Research

Construction of a Φ-function for two convex polytopes

Y. Stoyan, J. Terno, M. Gil, T. Romanova, G. Scheithauer (2002)

Applicationes Mathematicae

The analytical description of Φ-functions for two convex polytopes is investigated. These Φ-functions can be used for mathematical modelling of packing problems in the three-dimensional space. Only translations of the polytopes are considered. The approach consists of two stages. First the 0-level surface of a Φ-function is constructed, and secondly, the surface is extended to get the Φ-function. The method for constructing the 0-level surface is described in detail.

Continuous reformulations and heuristics for the euclidean travelling salesperson problem

Tuomo Valkonen, Tommi Kärkkäinen (2009)

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

We consider continuous reformulations of the euclidean travelling salesperson problem (TSP), based on certain clustering problem formulations. These reformulations allow us to apply a generalisation with perturbations of the Weiszfeld algorithm in an attempt to find local approximate solutions to the euclidean TSP.

Contrôle dynamique de flux dans un système d'attente avec panne

A. Haqiq, N. Mikou (2010)

RAIRO - Operations Research

We consider two parallel M/M/1 queues. The server at one of the queues is subject to intermittent breakdowns. By the theory of dynamic programming, we determine a threshold optimal policy which consists to transfer, when it is necessary, the customers that arrive at the first queue towards the second queue in order to minimize an instantaneous cost depending of the two queue lengths.

Convergence analysis of adaptive trust region methods

Zhen-Jun Shi, Xiang-Sun Zhang, Jie Shen (2007)

RAIRO - Operations Research

In this paper, we propose a new class of adaptive trust region methods for unconstrained optimization problems and develop some convergence properties. In the new algorithms, we use the current iterative information to define a suitable initial trust region radius at each iteration. The initial trust region radius is more reasonable in the sense that the trust region model and the objective function are more consistent at the current iterate. The global convergence, super-linear and quadratic convergence...

Convergence analysis of smoothing methods for optimal control of stationary variational inequalities with control constraints

Anton Schiela, Daniel Wachsmuth (2013)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis - Modélisation Mathématique et Analyse Numérique

In the article an optimal control problem subject to a stationary variational inequality is investigated. The optimal control problem is complemented with pointwise control constraints. The convergence of a smoothing scheme is analyzed. There, the variational inequality is replaced by a semilinear elliptic equation. It is shown that solutions of the regularized optimal control problem converge to solutions of the original one. Passing to the limit in the optimality system of the regularized problem...
