Total edge irregularity strength of trees

Jaroslav Ivančo, Stanislav Jendrol' (2006)

Discussiones Mathematicae Graph Theory

A total edge-irregular k-labelling ξ:V(G)∪ E(G) → {1,2,...,k} of a graph G is a labelling of vertices and edges of G in such a way that for any different edges e and f their weights wt(e) and wt(f) are distinct. The weight wt(e) of an edge e = xy is the sum of the labels of vertices x and y and the label of the edge e. The minimum k for which a graph G has a total edge-irregular k-labelling is called the total edge irregularity strength of G, tes(G). In this paper we prove that for every...

Total vertex irregularity strength of disjoint union of Helm graphs

Ali Ahmad, E.T. Baskoro, M. Imran (2012)

Discussiones Mathematicae Graph Theory

A total vertex irregular k-labeling φ of a graph G is a labeling of the vertices and edges of G with labels from the set {1,2,...,k} in such a way that for any two different vertices x and y their weights wt(x) and wt(y) are distinct. Here, the weight of a vertex x in G is the sum of the label of x and the labels of all edges incident with the vertex x. The minimum k for which the graph G has a vertex irregular total k-labeling is called the total vertex irregularity strength of G. We have determined...

Union of Distance Magic Graphs

Sylwia Cichacz, Mateusz Nikodem (2017)

Discussiones Mathematicae Graph Theory

A distance magic labeling of a graph G = (V,E) with |V | = n is a bijection ℓ from V to the set {1, . . . , n} such that the weight w(x) = ∑y∈NG(x) ℓ(y) of every vertex x ∈ V is equal to the same element μ, called the magic constant. In this paper, we study unions of distance magic graphs as well as some properties of such graphs.

Upper bounds on the b-chromatic number and results for restricted graph classes

Mais Alkhateeb, Anja Kohl (2011)

Discussiones Mathematicae Graph Theory

A b-coloring of a graph G by k colors is a proper vertex coloring such that every color class contains a color-dominating vertex, that is, a vertex having neighbors in all other k-1 color classes. The b-chromatic number χ b ( G ) is the maximum integer k for which G has a b-coloring by k colors. Moreover, the graph G is called b-continuous if G admits a b-coloring by k colors for all k satisfying χ ( G ) k χ b ( G ) . In this paper, we establish four general upper bounds on χ b ( G ) . We present results on the b-chromatic number...

Value sets of graphs edge-weighted with elements of a finite abelian group

Edgar G. DuCasse, Michael L. Gargano, Louis V. Quintas (2010)

Discussiones Mathematicae Graph Theory

Given a graph G = (V,E) of order n and a finite abelian group H = (H,+) of order n, a bijection f of V onto H is called a vertex H-labeling of G. Let g(e) ≡ (f(u)+f(v)) mod H for each edge e = u,v in E induce an edge H-labeling of G. Then, the sum H v a l f ( G ) e E g ( e ) m o d H is called the H-value of G relative to f and the set HvalS(G) of all H-values of G over all possible vertex H-labelings is called the H-value set of G. Theorems determining HvalS(G) for given H and G are obtained.

Vertex-antimagic total labelings of graphs

Martin Bača, James A. MacDougall, François Bertault, Mirka Miller, Rinovia Simanjuntak, Slamin (2003)

Discussiones Mathematicae Graph Theory

In this paper we introduce a new type of graph labeling for a graph G(V,E) called an (a,d)-vertex-antimagic total labeling. In this labeling we assign to the vertices and edges the consecutive integers from 1 to |V|+|E| and calculate the sum of labels at each vertex, i.e., the vertex label added to the labels on its incident edges. These sums form an arithmetical progression with initial term a and common difference d. We investigate basic properties of these labelings, show...

α-Labelings of a Class of Generalized Petersen Graphs

Anna Benini, Anita Pasotti (2015)

Discussiones Mathematicae Graph Theory

An α-labeling of a bipartite graph Γ of size e is an injective function f : V (Γ) → {0, 1, 2, . . . , e} such that {|ƒ(x) − ƒ(y)| : [x, y] ∈ E(Γ)} = {1, 2, . . . , e} and with the property that its maximum value on one of the two bipartite sets does not reach its minimum on the other one. We prove that the generalized Petersen graph PSn,3 admits an α-labeling for any integer n ≥ 1 confirming that the conjecture posed by Vietri in [10] is true. In such a way we obtain an infinite class of decompositions...

γ-labelings of complete bipartite graphs

Grady D. Bullington, Linda L. Eroh, Steven J. Winters (2010)

Discussiones Mathematicae Graph Theory

Explicit formulae for the γ-min and γ-max labeling values of complete bipartite graphs are given, along with γ-labelings which achieve these extremes. A recursive formula for the γ-min labeling value of any complete multipartite is also presented.
