Transonic flow calculation via finite elements

Petr Klouček, Josef Málek (1988)

Aplikace matematiky

Using new results based on a convenient entropy condition, two types of algorithms for computing transonic flows are constructed. A sequence of solutions of the linearised problem with a posteriori control is constructed and its convergence to the physical solution of transonic flow in some special situations is proved. This paper contains also numerical results and their analysis for the case of flow past NACA 230012 airfoil. Some numerical improvements of the general algorithms, based on our...

Transport of pollutant in shallow water : a two time steps kinetic method

Emmanuel Audusse, Marie-Odile Bristeau (2003)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis - Modélisation Mathématique et Analyse Numérique

The aim of this paper is to present a finite volume kinetic method to compute the transport of a passive pollutant by a flow modeled by the shallow water equations using a new time discretization that allows large time steps for the pollutant computation. For the hydrodynamic part the kinetic solver ensures – even in the case of a non flat bottom – the preservation of the steady state of a lake at rest, the non-negativity of the water height and the existence of an entropy inequality. On an other...

Travelling waves for gas-solid reactions.

C. J. Van Duijn, A. Straathof (1994)

Revista Matemática de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid

Bounded traveling waves, arising in combustion model for gas-solid reactions in a porous medium, are studied. We consider the existence, uniqueness and several qualitative properties. In particular we investigate waves with finiteness and derive estimates in the limit of vanishing diffusion.

Two phase flow arising in hydraulics

Ivan Straškraba (2015)

Applications of Mathematics

The aim of this paper is to proceed in the study of the system which will be specified below. The system concerns fluid flow in a simple hydraulic system consisting of a pipe with generator on one side and a valve or some more complicated hydraulic elements on the other end of the pipe. The purpose of the research is a rigorous mathematical analysis of the corresponding linearized system. Here, we analyze the linearized problem near the fixed steady state which already have been explicitly described....

Two problems in homogenization of porous media.

Jesús Ildefonso Díaz (1999)

Extracta Mathematicae

The main goal of this work is to present two different problems arising in Fluid Dynamics of perforated domains or porous media. The first problem concerns the compressible flow of an ideal gas through a porous media and our goal is the mathematical derivation of Darcy's law. This is relevant in oil reservoirs, agriculture, soil infiltration, etc. The second problem deals with the incompressible flow of a fluid reacting with the exterior of many packed solid particles. This is related with absorption...

Two shallow-water type models for viscoelastic flows from kinetic theory for polymers solutions

Gladys Narbona-Reina, Didier Bresch (2013)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis - Modélisation Mathématique et Analyse Numérique

In this work, depending on the relation between the Deborah, the Reynolds and the aspect ratio numbers, we formally derived shallow-water type systems starting from a micro-macro description for non-Newtonian fluids in a thin domain governed by an elastic dumbbell type model with a slip boundary condition at the bottom. The result has been announced by the authors in [G. Narbona-Reina, D. Bresch, Numer. Math. and Advanced Appl. Springer Verlag (2010)] and in the present paper, we provide a self-contained...
